Soundmax & Stock Striker 2 Extreme audio

Hi all
I know I have seen something on here but cannot find it again. thing is, I have killed my real soundcard & am having to rely on the stock sound card that comes with the Striker 2 Extreme board.
Here's the problem. when using a headset & mike, the mike is picked up but the headset will not work properly. Basically soundmax tells me to plug the headphone (lime green plug) into the onboard socket and will not recognise the lime green plug in the sound cards lime green socket as it is not a set of speakers?. The striker 2 does not have an onboard socket!
When using a 5:1 sound system, the rear speakers do not work.
Have tried reinstalling the 6310 drivers, uninstalling the card & reinstalling etc...
ASUS provides probably the most useless technical support I ever had & simply tell me to try what I just tried & told them I tried & does not work or go to the retailer - duh....
If any one has a fix please let me know or confirm what I think is probable the only answer - get a new decent sound card?
