A/V Cables

I have an older Panasonic Palmcorder with a 3.5mm A/V out port (female). I was wondering if there was any such thing as a 3.5mm male jack to either usb or firewire? So I can plug it into my laptop and use the windows media center tv to view and record the video/audio from the camcorder.Or do I simply need a usb tv tuner? TIA John

PS I have been searching online and don't seem to able to find what I'm looking for.

Re: A/V Cables

The 3.5mm output has analog audio and video signals, and usb and firewire are digital, completely different animals. So as you probably realize it's not just a matter of adapting the connector types. Does the laptop have analog audio and video inputs, in which case you can go into those? Otherwise you'll need an audio/video analog-to-digital converter, a very excellent (and somewhat expensive -- $215 at Newegg) example of which is the Canopus ADVC110:

You can undoubtedly find cheaper counterparts to this model, but I would carefully research their quality before purchasing lesser models.

Re: A/V Cables

Just get a USB video capture device. They can be pretty cheap. You may need to get an adaptor for the analog signals going into it.

With USB, I am not sure if you can watch real time,.

Re: A/V Cables

Thank You both, I really just want to be able to record the video/audio from the camcorder, so Ricks solution looks good. It is an ASUS G1S so there are no analog inputs. Thanks Guys
