How is the monitor for 4:3 gaming? Does it s t r e t c h it or does it box it?
(I mean games that dont have widescreen option. I have some older games I like to play sometimes)
It stretches 4:3 , which doesn't look pretty IMO. But it seems that most recent games support widescreen. For those that doesn't, there's a good chance that someone has made a res hack for it. Check out: Widescreen Gamer

Thanks for the link.

Anyone know if ATI's and Nvidia's drivers have an option to stop this stretching of the screen for old 4:3 games?

Re: Widescreen versus 4:3 LCD monitor

I know, with at least nvidia drivers, you can force resolutions at the driver level. I've never done it, so I'm not sure how effective it is though.

Nothing to bother you, but a funny fact is, that many moives are actually made in 4:3. So you get to see more when watching the DVD 4:3 version at home then in the cinema.

Re: Widescreen versus 4:3 LCD monitor

I have a 4/3 19" screen and a 22" widescreen next to next, and I became resolutely in favour of widescreen; I must admit I seldomly watch movies though: most of my activity relates to gaming, office work or internet browsing. To feel really comfortable though, I guess a widescreen display of 24" would be better: this doesn't relate to the width, which is OK, but with the height, which would need to be high enough to view full A4 pages without zooming.

You might see more but films are not composed to look any good at 4:3. Well with the exception of films that are really made for 4:3 like classic films.

Whats the native resolution of 24"'s? (bearing in mind the higher the resolution a game is played at then the greater the load on the video card and the lower the fps)

Oh, not only classic films (where does "classic" start for you? Okay, Alien is a classic, so you are right imho), also many "modern" movies are 4:3, so you actually see more with your 4:3 DVD than in the theatre.

Greetings

huh? Im confused! I have never seen a hollywood production in 4:3.. EVER..(maybe a cartoon movie or something) The only thing that has 4:3 anymore is low budget flicks. Hell, they don't make many new TV shows in 4:3 anymore.

Re: Widescreen versus 4:3 LCD monitor

I'm desperately trying to find the link to that article i did read about that topic.

Somewhere the author mentioned that many movies have been shot in 4:3, so you are able to see more picture, that way it was shot, on the DVD, whereas you are missing parts of the pic in the theatre.

"Spiel mir da Lied vom Tod", or "Once Upon a Time in the West" was clearly shot in cinemascope, ypu would miss half of the movie when watching it in 4:3.

Greetings

Dru
