| Hi everyone, First I am a proud owner of Logitech's Z5500 speakers and let me tell you I too had a few run ins with this annoying pop & hiss. To resolve this "pop" you need to fiddle with the power cord attachment located on the back of the subwoffer. If the power cord adapter doesn't make a good connection then you may expieriencesome poor sound like "popping" or "hissing/humming". As for the perfomance of these speakers... They are great for gaming, listening to music of watching a 5.1THX movie!

| Well... that may be the case with your Z-5500's but it was determined after extensive testing that the problem isn't the power or any problem with the powergrid but with the shielding of certain components. Anyway, Logitech is even deleting our posts on their public forum so how is that for censorship... Logitech is on my black list from now on... I'll shop somewhere else.

| Sub, Have you guys posted on the Creative Labs website? I ask, because I wonder if some of the people there who are experiencing popping are blaming it on the sound card instead the their speakers. I personally have creative gigaworks 650 so I can't participate meaningfully. |

| Hey, i registered to post this as it was this thread that made me contact logitech about my z5500's that went boom whenever someone screwed with something electrical nearby. They sent me a brand new set of z5500's free of charge, and these new ones don't make a loud noise when something is turned on and off. I tested with my old z5500's and a hair clipper: Old z5500 + clipper on and off = boom Old z5500 on loud + clipper on and off = boom scaling with volume New z5500 + clipper on = nothing noticeable, very slight noise New z5500 on loud + clipper on and off = again nothing noticeable, slight noise does not scale with volume So they've basically fixed the issue, the slight noise i mentioned may have been from the clippers since they make a buzzing sound and this may have skewed my analysis of things, but either way there is no boom or pop or anything coming from the sub anymore. Also they seem to only want back the cables from my old z5500 set, i think im being allowed to keep the old sub and speakers! Which is fantastic, because theyre great apart from that 1 issue, so whats better than a set of z5500's? TWO SETS haha! There was only two differences i noticed between these new speakers and my old ones, that was the Part ID number and the power plug for the sub, the new power plug was an actual 3 pin one, instead of what looked like a 2 pin american one plugged into a 3 pin adapter like before. Subtle differences that probably make no difference but i listed them anyways. |

| Re: Z-5500 popping issues Hi, I was routed by google to this page after searching about popping issue of my z 5500. I live in Turkey and got my z5500 from here. I ve been experiencing the exact same problems that are mentioned here. My first z5500 was literally unusable it made extremely loud popping noise constantly no matter if lights are turned on or not. All of a sudden it started popping madly and it wasn't stopping till it was powered off. This problem was far more serious than what I ve experienced later and what you guys have discovered. I sent the unit for RMA. Logitech Turkey claimed there was no problem at all with my unit so they refused to give a replacement. Instead I ve been given a full refund by the seller (not logitech) due to consumer laws in Turkey. Had this problem occured a week after, I wouldn't have that right. Anyway I was so obsessed about those 5500 s that, I bought another one. That new unit has the exact same problems you guys have been talking about. A loud popping noise when lights are turned on/of etc. And now after using that unit about a year, other then popping loudly when an electrical device is swithced, it started to give a constant popping. That constant popping is not loud. In fact it can only be heard when nights (in silence) but Its extremely annoying for me. I ve always thought this was a problem arising from my house's electrical system. Thanks to you guys, I know who to blame for now! I won't contact logitech turkey because they don't give a **** about anything other then making money. But I l'd certainly like to contact Logitech Europe which at least seems to be far more responsible then what we have here! |

| Re: Z-5500 popping issues Hello, My brand new z-5500 make a very very loud constant humm/buzz. This is with no input. Only occurs when selecting input as direct ch6. If I plug in headphones with or without an audio source I do not hear the noise though. This noise is independent of the volume control. I have tried all over the house. I'm trying to track down the problem and if it is a defect. I've contacted Logitech technical support and awaiting response. Reading several sites on the internet. It appears the '1%' is an inaccurate figure regarding defects. Jaeger. |

| Re: Z-5500 popping issues Hello, I replaced my PID 732 at the store with 745. FYI: This moel works fine. The store clerk told me 50% of z-55000 are coming back. Another shop told me a similar story. ---- I contacted Logitech. They directed me to the standard response of: logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5105 I told them clearly though I did this it is a loud noise and this only happens with particular settings. I think the Logitech representative originally just read the subject heading and not my concern. They told me it sounds like there is a problem with the controller and there is a feedback issue. They then proceeded to tell me to send it internationally with a reference number. I had to tell them again, why would I do this when I purchased the item the day before!?!?! I just returned it to the store. Jaeger. |
