Re: Welcolm to Windows 8;

I will stay with Win 7 as well. You know they are in the software business and in order to keep makeing billions of dollars they will say that Win 8 is the best thing since sliced bread. Showing my age now aren't I? Anyway I know all the Win 7 fan boys are going to get all tight in their shorts for this, but I still love, run, and play games on XP. IMHO XP was the best operating system ever. Like Jack Nicklaus to golf or Cassius Clay to boxing. :thanks:

I still run win98se on one of my computers and like it. Some great games still run better on win98se and not at all on win7.

The problem is that they phase out support over time. Reliability & Security degrades. Eventually compatibility becomes an issue with newer components and apps.
Reminds me of a car that I loved. Didnt matter how many new ones I test drove, they couldnt match it for comfort and driveability, and I thought it still looked pretty good too. But newer tech comes in with improved safety features and the old car starts to suffer maintenance issues as parts wear out. What u gonna do?

Fourteen years later win98se seems to run fine for me. Runs word. Runs excel. Runs web browsers. Does email.

It's only the strong arm tactics of the operating system manufacturer that will cut off any one who doesn't do what they say that causes this. One could add updates to any "abandoned" OS but the OS manufacturer would not make any money. It's all a forced money making game.

Cars? I know someone who has a running model T.

I would not be surprised if Win 98 se is safer now than ever. The virus writers are concintrating their software to run on XP/Win-7. I totally agree Traveler. Like an XP/SP4 with more drivers Sata for one.

Rad, I love(d) XP as well.. unfortunately technology evolution has kind of phased out Win XP... not that 7 is that bad (even if it's still Vista revised..)
Shamefully I haven't touched XP anymore.. but it's still known as one of the most popular OS, I'd say reliable too but it's been criticised alot for security and other issues
Btw.. I don't know actually if the 64 version has improved Anyone?

And oh yea.. little sidenote.. I hate cloud compute :lol: So far the only use it seems to have in my eyes/for me is server-based savegames

I don't use it either. Well I use onsite email (hotmail/yahoo) so I guess I do that way.

A forums thread just started about XP verses Win-7. This may prove interesting I thought; http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/1478...-or-windows-7/

One sentence caught my attention here; http://www.informationweek.com/news/...tems/231500107 Win-8 to be the most significant overhaul in 15 years. This is the start of the promotion as to why we have to buy this OS.

traveler 08-17-2011 11:48 AM

New operating systems are always the same: useless. Nothing new of any significance.

Win98se with a few security enhancements, stability enhancements, a remote add-on, and a choice of third party developed skins would have been fine sizzling along on todays extremely fast motherboards, cpu's, ram, chips, buses, and other hardware. All the rest is bs. Sad to see so many delusional people.

Well all I know when you can do a complete reinstall of the OS without running all over the place looking for drivers for all your hardware its a BIG plus for me, try that in 98 or XP, better get Belarc Adviser to make sure you have the right model of sound card, nic, video card, and all the rest so you don't install the wrong drivers! I haven't had one problem with W7 its just works and is actually a pleasure to start over fresh!:tiphat::ahhhhh::lol:
