It is to prevent the vcore to drop under heavy load. :) If you read the adp3180 datasheet, it is only supposed to drop about .03V-.05V when there is a load to the cpu, but asus seemed to over did it...

Try soldering those blinkin dracula led together with power led. It might work, because those led doesnt feed off from 12V/5V sometimes. I'm guessing they are getting their power from -5V/-12V rail....
