Re: ATI to release new Dual DirectX 11 boards

From what I've read, it's unlikely. The next-gen stuff will have a huge die and they have very low yields at 40nm with the current generation which is quite a bit smaller than the DX11 stuff.

Re: Need Wireless N Router/Gigabit Switch Suggestions???

I wouldn't upgrade unless there were security issues being resolved by the upgrade, or you need something that's been included in a newer firmware version.

Re: 8GB?! You can't handle the 8GB!!

Is 1T/2T the command rate or something else?

I shall try all this this evening. Thanks.

8GB?! You can't handle the 8GB!!

OK, so I bought another 4GB of Corsair memory a while back. I didn't think much of it when I got it, but the other day I decided to install it. Turns out the retailer had sent me two sets of 2x2GB...

Re: Need Wireless N Router/Gigabit Switch Suggestions???

Yes. You can share folders on your Mac. In System Preferences under networking you have the Sharing icon. Choose File Sharing in the list on the left and then if you click the Options button you can...

Re: How many ASUS boards are still around ( desktops )

My TUSL2-C is retired, but still works if I turn it on. Will probably scrap it soon. My parents' CUSL2 was retired a year ago.

I run a Gigabyte mobo in my main rig and a MacBook Pro these days....

Re: Can a Mod answer this question for me please?

No.

IIRC it wasn't possible back when I was a full admin either, but that may have been some setting CJ turned off.

But bear in mind that it still really isn't private. A PM is stored in the...

Re: Need Wireless N Router/Gigabit Switch Suggestions???

The DIR-655 "just works" as well if you ask me. I considered the Apple one, but found it just didn't warrant the extra cash.

Re: Bolt Crushes His Own 200-Meter Record

Yeah, that whole thing was despicable. The crowd booed her as she won and she didn't want to stand on the podium to receive her medal.

People really suck sometimes.

Re: Bolt Crushes His Own 200-Meter Record

He looked kinda stiff the last 30m or so, too.

Insane. I really hope he's clean.

Re: Need Wireless N Router/Gigabit Switch Suggestions???

The only thing I dislike with it is that the blue LEDs are so bright it's insane.

Re: Need Wireless N Router/Gigabit Switch Suggestions???

100% agreed.

I get over 2 megabyte per second using .11n WiFi with a new MacBook Pro and the DIR-655.

Re: Bolt sets world record 9.58 in 100 at world championships

I believe he was doing something like 45kph over the finish line in the semifinal.

Re: Gulftown benchmarks surface

You'd want a POWER6 then, they're up to 5GHz or so. Of course, you need the GNP of a small banana republic to buy one.

The laws of physics kinda suck if you want faster computers. It's much too...

Re: Windows 7 Upgrade Paths Explained!

At our site we're about 1400 people or so (tens of thousands globally) and everyone has their own laptop (though "lugtop" is more like it). We used Win2k up until last fall when Vista was rolled out....

Re: Windows 7 Upgrade Paths Explained!

At work we had a Win2k to Vista upgrade, and it was as much "in-place" as would be possible with two such different products. I doubt Win2k-to-Vista would've been advertised by Microsoft as being...

Re: Windows XP SP3 runs browsers 13% faster than Windows 7 RTM

It's basically the law of thermodynamics that says more features will mean a larger footprint and a slower response time on the same architecture. You can't get away from that in any way (entropy...

Re: Windows XP SP3 runs browsers 13% faster than Windows 7 RTM

Wouldn't the more valid comparison be between Vista and Win7?

XP is "lightweight" simply because it's old. Of course it uses less resources, it's engineered to work with hardware that's much...

Re: yeah, whatever....

Saw one of those (or another Samsung similar to it) a couple weeks ago. Stunning picture, just stunning. The only problem with such a great TV is the lack of programming to make it shine. Heh.

Re: * Sleep mode...no work in W-7 *

I'd suspect driver issues rather than OS issues for sleep/suspend/hibernate problems in general.

Re: a nightmare scenario ?

It's unlikely you can update the backup BIOS. It would make sense to make it non-programmable just to avoid people fiddling with it.

I'd say it's there to avoid the user killing the mobo...

Re: Intel Expects 34nm Process Technology to Lower SSD Costs by up to 60%

SSDs are a waiting game for me. It's too early and too expensive. I hope I can replace the HDD in my MacBook with an SSD some time next year for not too much money. I wouldn't mind maxing out the...
