Re: When can we expect to see Notebooks with > 4 GB RAM for 64bit OS?

When there is a market for denser notebook modules, which three probably wont' be until 64bit computing catches on in the notebook market.

Does Xen not allow you to overcommit memory like...

Re: When can we expect to see Motherboards with > 4 GB RAM for 64bit OS?

Pretty much all P35 and newer boards support 8GB.

Most newer notebooks support up to 4GB, but 32GB is a bit ridiculous.

Re: Memory Issue With New Rig...Help!

The overheating issue is not very plausible...

Check the voltage your memory requires. Most motherboards only push 1.8v while some memory requires up to 2.5v.

Compatibility is based on...

Re: Memory Issue With New Rig...Help!

The next obvious issue after faulty memory would be faulty memory channels/controller. Do you have a way of testing the module on another board?

Re: Lan Access In Access Point Logs

A broadcast will reach every host in a broadcast domain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_domain), so if you have a flat network it is probably only delimited by the router at your edge.

Re: Lan Access In Access Point Logs

That is weird. I'd fire up Wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) and take a look at what's going on from the MACs in question.

Although, you're probably stressing over a silly issue.

Re: Lan Access In Access Point Logs

Could be ARPs or other broadcasts.

What are the actual MACs for those devices? Can you see the destination MAC, i.e., is it FFFFF... or the actual MAC of the AP?

Re: Verizon flubs FiOS installation almost burns down AP reporterís house

Do you not realize that DSL is, often times, running over 15+ yr old copper (that was never intended to carry broadband signals)? When you call to order DSL they generally just do a basic loop...

Re: Wireless Connection Disabled after Sleep Mode!

Why are you putting a desktop to sleep in the first place?

Windows is notorious for messing up wireless when coming out of sleep. Try using hibernate, if you really must.

Re: Verizon flubs FiOS installation almost burns down AP reporterís house

I wish I wasn't deep in the heart of AT&T country. FiOS will never come here, and our cableco only offers 10/1. The only good thing is that once my company puts in their new CO in a few months,...

Re: Intel won't touch Vista

You don't need 8GB of RAM to run Vista; you don't even need 4GB. Anything over 4GB at this point is a waste, and usually purchased so someone can put it in their leet forum sig or just because...

Re: Microsoft will support Windows XP through April 2014

Vista Business, which is what you should be using in such a setting, does not come with Aero. I can't argue with the Deskbar as I turn it off on my home machine. UAC is not something I'd turn...

Re: Who's getting a GTX 280 in June ?

This isn't entirely true. They are separate in the sense that they are logically and physically discrete, but memory from both still gets counted against the address space. A 32 bit system can...

Re: Microsoft will support Windows XP through April 2014

Someone understands! 2k STILL receives updates and limited support to this day (it's slated to end in 2010, IIRC).

Just curious, but what would you need to disable in Vista Business?

Re: Intel won't touch Vista

Then, by your own admission, it's user error. It's worked 99% of the time for me, so it's how I do it. You ONLY have to uninstall the motherboard/chipset drivers and related software anyway.

Re: Microsoft will support Windows XP through April 2014

Not really; the total age is irrelevant, as support is generally figured from when it's discontinued as a commercial product. Go take a look at how long 2k Pro/Server were supported.

Re: Intel won't touch Vista

Why would you have to reinstall? Just uninstall the chipset etc drivers before you swap boards.
