You guys won't like what I have to say but I don't like either the Intel or the AMD chips. Must be getting cynical in my old age. First the benchmarks are annoying because there are two 1950X benchmarks lol. I guess the high one is the 16 core and the low one is the 12 core. Second, trying to run these as gaming machines is kind of a joke. 44dB noise??? I don't think you want a 16 core for a gaming PC right now. Anyway, these are geared toward multi-threaded apps. which is something else I don't need much of at the house.

I am not in the market for anything right now but if I were it would be the upcoming Coffee Lake 6-core that does 4.7GHz. Plenty of cores, extremely fast, and 95W. That would be all you need for the homework and gaming. Bet you money that one will do 5GHz.
