Problem is most people probably think OpenOffice and/or Gimp suck because they really do in comparison to pirated copies of MS Office or Photoshop. (Gimp especially is such a user interaction turd I get anxiety attacks just thinking about it.)

Also, they run on XP as well. Which means they aren't something you use as a clear-cut advantage for GNU/Linux.

Gimp, for example, could easily be replaced by Paint.NET if you're on XP, which is much better, equally free (as in beer) and not reliant on a port of GTK+ to XP.
