-New! Adds support for new 64-bit CPUs from VIA Technologies.

-New! Improves performance for Wi-Fi connection after resuming from sleep mode.

Well, as Mark Twain said - there are lies, damn lies and statistics. Marketing folk seem to be at ease with all three

Re: latest details on Vista Service Pack 2

Well, I loaded up the latest RC. I haven't noticed any differences yet, but I haven't been looking very hard.

only difference I saw was a new Bluetooth icon in my Control Panel...

performance wise it feels the same...maybe this is geared towards those who havn't tried Vista yet or those who do not use SP1 or don't download the latest critical Windows Updates every month

Question Re: latest details on Vista Service Pack 2

am i missing something ?
since when do service packs have to be installed in sequence ?
isn't each service pack stand alone and non reliant on previous packs ?

or is microsoft just stupid as usual, or am i missing something ? ...perhaps proper reading skills ?

Service Pack 2 (SP2), available in May 2009, contains all the updates we've released since SP1 plus support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards. You should install both Service Packs, and you need to install SP1 before SP2.

edit: upon several further readings, i decided that it means: "if you want to install sp1 by itself, you must do so before installing sp2, because if you try to install sp1 on top of sp2 it won't work". why the hell would anyone want to do that ? if you have a vanilla vista any normal man would install sp2 only, since it has all of sp1 anyway. yeah, i "get" it now. i stand by my comments. microsoft is stupid, and i'm right.

edit 2: time for another edit. i downloaded vista sp1 and sp2 (32bit) and i'm back to my original confused status. sp1 is 455mb and sp2 is 365mb. consecutive service packs are almost (always?) bigger then their predecessors.
i got sp1 stand alone from here and sp2 stand alone from here.

M$ has stated that SP1 is a prerequisite for SP2, so you must install SP1 before you can install SP2.

If you think M$ service packs are confusing, you should try organising patches for games. Whilst game developers can build creative and ingenious games, they seem to have a collective mental block when it comes to patches, with confusing instructions and naming conventions rife in the industry. Its patch hell out there.
