Question Green transparent progressbar in Vista does that mean my USB stick been copied?

Just wondering if my USB stick was perhaps been copied, it was put into a PC its never been in before, window came up to view or open the files, which was okayed, while the thumbnails where been loaded up, (there were about 230 in total) a green transparent progressbar appeared in the control of the W.E. that holds the current path. This took quite a few minutes, not sure if it stopped when the thumbnails were loaded or not.

I've never used vista before, im used to XP and XP would never have taken this long for something so basic, im worried that maybe there was some activesync type program running unseen copying all my usb stick because of the lengh of time this green progressbar was up, XP would load these up in seconds not minutes.

Just want to know from people who have used vista is it really this slow at this kind of thing or should i be worried my personal data has been copied? thanks

Re: Green transparent progressbar in Vista does that mean my USB stick been copied?

I used Vista for a while and it never automatically copied the contents of any USB drive I plugged in.
If you want to confirm if your stuff was copied or not, search the local drive(s) on the PC you plugged it into to see if you find any of your files.

thanks for that, i don't have access to the original PC to check, can you remember vista been so slow at loading up thumbnails from a usb stick?

Im just worried prehaps a unseen third party utiilty was copying the stick and that is the reason it was so slow.

Re: Green transparent progressbar in Vista does that mean my USB stick been copied?

I never used autoplay in Vista to open the files on a USB drive. I just accessed what I needed using Windows Explorer. I never experienced the long delay you described.

Re: Green transparent progressbar in Vista does that mean my USB stick been copied?

The delay is at the mercy of setting on the pc you insert the USB drive. The way the the usb drive is handled is a function of the way the user has set up the handling/ opening the media just inserted goes for CDs external HDs as well as usb drives. The drive is just scanned for data on it or not.

The data to my knowledge and experience is never copied it maybe prefetched for access but not copied.

The only case would be if there were a program on the host system that would try to sync the usb drive to the host to keep both in sync..
