Looking into buying a Synology DS212+, need advice
Hello, I am looking into buying a NAS fron Synology (DS212+). Using it as a mini server for small business (file sharing, web hosting, etc). DOes anyone has similar experience in this, and does it have sufficient juice or should I look into a full server setup?
THx in adv.

Re: Looking into buying a Synology DS212+, need advice
Hi,
I am currently building a 42TB NAS (12x 3TB hard drives). As I understand this is only network accessed storage. You use this in conjuntion with a switch and it is not a stand alone computer/server. The reason for NAS is primarily for multiple computers to have quick access to storage and not have to go through a server. If you only have one computer you should just get a server with storage inside.

If you're looking for a Web server, a NAS is NOT the solution for you!
******************** By Web hosting, do you mean online storage?

Yes I understand a NAS is primary for sharing files, but I saw the spec it can also run web server
check the spec here. Just want to know if it's powerful enough for web server duty as well....

I'm sure it is, they are used for Enterprise purposes mostly and I think they all have onboard RAID controllers.
