Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

Thanks for the link Spawn.
My A75/FM1 & A3870K rig is obsolete already.
I'm still not clear on whether or not the new APUs will be compatible with A75/FM1 boards. It will be nice if they are.

Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

No they will not be compatible with the FM1 socket. FM2 will be the new standard for the upcoming processors.

Wow! That should make for a pretty nice laptop, or low end desktop. Did AMD just do some right??

Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

I'm anxiously awaiting this new processor, and I truly hope the new MBs utilize the PCIe 3.0 standard.

I will build one dammit.

Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

Yeah they change sockets like underwear these days. I remember when the socket A's were the standard for years. Even 939 lasted quite a while. Didn't FM1 just hit?! Geez.. Not in the new build range just yet for myself anyway. USB and PCIe 3.0 native are a must if I was.

Pretty cool video. I am assuming by "trinity" they mean on chip graphics + discrete + CPU/APU?

Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

They are combined in the APU.

The A-8 series has a quad core processor with built in Radeon HD 6770 graphics I believe. All in one.

This new series should be out soon...

Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

So about the same as say the A6 series but with a more powerful GPU? Just wonder where the "trinity" popped up

I think it's based on the piledriver core, if I remember correctly.

Re: Live Demo of the Upcoming AMD Trinity

Humm.. Seems to be the codeword itself for the new chips..

AMD’s 2nd Generation APU, Codenamed “Trinity,” Will Enable Superior Multimedia Experience for Our “Connected” Generation | Fusion

So I guess it doesn't have any meaning other then that. I hear trinity I think three then three what.. Wow look at the wattage on these chips. Low as I ever saw!

Both AMD and Intel can be annoying with the socket switching. The days of several generations of chips having the same socket seem to be over. I caught AMD right at the end of the 939 run with the FX-57. They made one more dual core FX-60 that was actually clocked a little slower then the 57. The next one (FX-70 I think?) went to socket AM2 I think it was. To this day the FX 60 cost more then the FX-70 since it's the highest you can go on 939. AM2 was kinda a joke. It went from DDR to DDR2 memory which made little real time difference. That was around the time Intel took the lead with the C2D's and kept it ever since. If they are going to change a socket there should be some major architectural changes.
