The VelociRaptor 1 TB is now out, here's the review and all the info, its not has fast has a SSD but its the fastest mechanical drive in the world!

Thanks for the link FV. I agree with the final words in the article. It would be nice to see a hybrid VR with on-board NAND.

$100 on amazon? That's about what a 1t costs right now for a regular 7200. Not had at all. I have a 500g I don't even use right now. I got win 8 on it and haven't played with it that much. Going to need it for storage soon I'm running out of space.

Street price for the new VR 1TB is ~$295.

Ugh! I was hoping they'd *finally* be 15K rpm drives

Oh well, maybe when I go to SSDs, maybe I'll pick up a 1TB VR for my 'Data' drive (for my desktop, I'll go with larger ones for my server when the price is right). At this point the new VRs are probably as fast as my RAID 0 set.

I'm with you all the way on that one. I bought one originally for this rig as a system drive. The numbers were nowhere close to the slowest SSD. FOr $300 bucks you could get a decent 240g. I would gladly trade the extra space for speed. The velociraptors are still loud too. It doesn't really bother me, but I like the silence of the SSD's
