Suggestions for Tablet
I'm looking at a few different tablets for my mother at the moment.
All she wants to accomplish on a tablet is watching a few Closed Caption videos available from iTunes, and the normal email / surfing. It certainly is nothing special. I'm looking at one specific brand / model that has gotten good reviews. The iBex Flytouch 5. It has a decent price when compared to other major brands, and it seems as if it is what will work for her. I, most likely, WILL NOT be purchasing it from that specific eBunk seller, but the listing provides relevant information. Questions / comments? Please post!

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
Have you considered the Kindle Fire? It is only 7 inch not a ten inch. She would get a 3 month free Amazon Prime account where she would be able to get free movies and TV series to stream to here Fire from Amazon Prime Instant movies.
Amazon.com: Amazon Prime Instant Videos: Amazon Instant Video

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
I got one of those flytouch tabs for my step son. The display is less than brilliant and the touch screen is not very sensitive. It was only about 100 though. I might look at the new galaxy nexus. Lots of features for the price.

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
I'd say you should buy almost any tablet that has your preferred operating system . Maybe avoid the cheapest ones, but don't buy a super fast-expensive-overrated one. There won't be much to do on the tablet. When my brother bought one, we were super enthusiastic, imagining how many things we will do with it, but now it's used only for bored browsing, and for that, and mediocre tablet is more than enough.
Though be aware for your tablet to have proper multitask. My brother's tablet multitasks fine, just it does not play youtube video in background, and it's frustrating.

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
Well I can see this is an expanding market for sure. I've ran across something that may be worth the wait.

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
I am definitely partial to my iPad 3
but I realize they are expensive... for older eyes and simpler needs she couldn't go wrong....again---I realize they are more expensive. As an ebook reader alone.....NOTHING compares....and I have tried them all, Kindle, Nook etc..... Beautiful screen Superb interface Great battery life Decent camcorder/camera Tremendous APP availability Versatile, light and mobile.... I stopped lugging around a laptop about 18 monts ago.....never looked back....

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
You can get a refurbished IPad 2 for under $400, my friend got one from Apple and it looked brand new with full warranty, plus you can't beat a iPad, and this is from a guy who doesn't like Apple!

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
What's your definition of "roughly" LOL
Unless you have one of the military grade rubber cases......I wouldn't plan on it surviving a drop on a hard floor. But I think this is true for basically any electronic device. Smartphone Tablet Laptop

Re: Suggestions for Tablet
I think if I ever get a tablet, it will probably be an Asus Transformer.
