Question: Ordering an (OEM) Intel processor
Hi Guys,
I am hoping someone here has some experience in ordering OEM chips, and can guide me towards realistic expectations. I have my eye on the Intel XEON E5-1620. Trouble is, it is offered in trays of a 1000 to OEM's. There is no boxed version one can buy. Anywhere I look online, it is a "special order" item. If I go to a distributor like Pro Vantage, the web site states that it can take a couple of weeks to fufill. I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for an item. But what I would mind, is placing an order, waiting a couple of weeks and then being told to wait a couple weeks more. What is bothering me is that I don't understand the process. When one puts an order in to one of these distributors for an OEM chip, are they in a position to "Make it happen"? Or do they wait hoping an OEM will dump some of the spares from one of their unused trays of a 1000 onto the open market? I'd appreciate anyone relaying their experience in this area. Also, any experience anyone would have had with Pro Vantage. Thanks You. |
