Re: Apple just....Gets It !

There's a war brewing men!

Smoke Signals on the horizon! War drums beginning to beat.

I can see old-time IT guys who have grown up with Microsoft, Microsoft is all they know, Microsoft is their deity.....I see it in the Pundits columns too in some places on the nets.

Yepper, I can see those people clashing with the rest of their work environment.....in businesses, schools, government......etc.
clashing with the common sense folks----the ones interested in PRODUCTION, not a healthy retraining phase and mass chaos in their organization while that takes place.

A lot of these old-timers,....... if they go with Windows 8 in their organization, will be out on their ear.......or are going to have to retrain and learn the new mobile paradigm. It's that simple.

And you know what's absolutely crazy and ironic, these are the same folks who when they were younger preached PCs because they were PRODUCTIVE And the business standard.........and not the locked "apple stuff". And we listened because they made sense.

But if they preach Win 8.......we won't listen anymore.....

Or....I could be all wet and the MS boys have really nailed this one.....

Oh, sorry, lost my head there for a second....

Crazy how the world turns over the years.

Or, this is going to scare them so badly that even they will want no part of it.

Why on earth put a consumer type interface onto a server? Unbelievable!
I haven't installed it yet, so I don't know if there is a classic install option (or appearance control) to set it to some sort of Win7 like interface. If there isn't, I will barf. Win2k8R2 works just fine. There are some useful advantages to Win2k12 - but having to click on tiles, wave my mouse around in corners, learn 60 new keyboard shortcuts - simply ghey.

Someone will be able to make a mint if they come up with a client side app that'll work with a headless install and present and Win7 like interface with all the standard Win2k8 snap-ins and controls.

It's too bad Apple didn't take some of their ~$100B in the bank and start a separate server division using Mac OSX and standard x86 blade technology - I think it could have been successful. Why go with Linux if you had a major brand name with quality support and a standardized distribution (getting rid of some of the module update problem of Linux). People didn't like paying a premium for Apple servers that gave them less hardware/$ and the lack of standard highly scalable configurations. Oh, and they'd need to spend some dollars to convince the top 100 server software vendors to make Mac OSX versions of their software - again, they had the $$s.

Oh well, to bad, Apple prefers being a consumer oriented business and that's working out so well for them, who am I to suggest a change.

Re: Apple just....Gets It !

I don't think i'll be getting windows 8. They are foolishly experimenting, and i don't trust this, mostly since vista.

As a programmer, the thing about apple systems is that, indeed they are fail-safe, but that's because it doesn't let you have that much configuration, as you can in windows or linux, and i couldn't run a overly-expensive software knowing that i'm not using it at it's best because it slams me with fail-safe barriers.

I do congratulate you, and i think that apple products seem very awesome, and they are. It's just that they are a little bit overpriced, but this is almost compensated by beauty, a trick that big companies like Microsoft or Nokia don't seem to get it.

You are absolutely correct! Vista doesn't even come close to this. Not by a longshot. Vista had some problems, Windows 8 is a disaster!

A HUGE difference between problems and disaster! LOL

I agree with this. It's good to have choice. The configuration free solution is great for some applications, such as the iPad, but too limiting for others.
Just depends on your needs.
