Norton image. After restoring a drive. The restored drive is still empty.

Hi Guys,

Having a small problem. I have a Norton image of my old D: which was an independent data drive (OS drive is separate and independent). Now i put in a 500 GB drive and partitioned it 50/50 as D: and E:. Then i fired up Norton Ghost 9 and tried to restore the image of the old inependent D: onto the new partition D:. It goes through the motion of restoring. Takes a hour or so and then says completed successfully. Thousands Of Blistering Barnacles !!!! The new D: partition is still empty.

Is it that an independent HDD's image will not restore onto a partition of a disk ?

Hi, can anyone please help. I can seem to find much help thru google either on the simple fact of wether an independent imaged drive can be restored only onto another independent drive and not onto a new partition ?

Posting Solution Found For General Benefit : The target/destination drive should be unallocated. Unformatted and raw. Then ensure you use the bootable recovery disk method to restore the drive (even if its a data drive). Ensure to toggle switch expand drive to fill unallocated space (or something very similar in wording).

Then make sure you select restore MBR and ORIGINAL DISK SIGNATURE.

Then reboot and the problem i expressed can be solved.
