I'm sure there are lots of more powerful tools to use. I like solutions like simple script with built in commands because they are portable. I took the script I wrote for my backup, and only had to modify it slightly to have one for my wife's computer too.

On my side, I loved to know about RoboCopy. Didn't know it even existed!

I only learned about it fairly recently myself (last year). Some scripts used at work are using the command. I checked when I got home on my machine to find it was a standard executable in Windows and not something homemade and used at work.

I work from Windows command line a lot now (even more than I used to for fun). I've learned a lot of nifty little command line tools built into Windows that I'd not heard of or not used before. Stuff that IT admin types probably know inside and out.

What Windows version do you have? Here I have W7 Ultimate x64. Is there RoboCopy for lower-end versions (e.g. W7 Home Basic x86)? Just curious.

OTOH, Peter Weller must be feeling flattered!

I'm not sure. I have Win7 Ultimate x64.

From this: Robocopy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My guess is that it's all Windows SKUs since Vista.

Re: Backup Software for Windows 7 64-bit

As suggested previously, the native software in Win7 will do the job. I use it and it works flawlessly!

For cloning I prefer the free edition of Macrium Reflect, that definitely works.

I do not use the cloud for backups or sync's
