Asus RT-N66R Wan Speed

I've had an Asus RT-N66R as my main router for about 2 years now. I also have the same router on the second floor setup as a AP only. I've been playing with different firmware's lately for the best performance. My Wan port is rated at 1000mb. I'm using a Motorola SB6141 on Comcast. For whatever reason neither one of these routers want ports will run at 1000mb as they are rated. I tried cat5e and cat6 cables at 6ft long and no change. If I plug my modem into my pc or into a network switch I get 1000mb. On the router if I have more modem or a network switch plugged into the wan port 100mb is max. I've installed the same combo Motorola SB6141 and the Asus RT-N66R at 3 different locations and all of them have the same issue.

What would be causing this?

Re: Asus RT-N66R Wan Speed

Here's an active thread on your problem. One thing I read was to have your ISP hard set your speed to 1Gbit. You cannot have hard set on one end and auto on the other.

Re: Asus RT-N66R Wan Speed

Its just weird that when the modem is plugged into my computer it will connect at 1000mb. Also when I plug the modem into a gigabit switch it will connect at 1000mb. Guess buying the router for 1000mb Wan connection was a waste of money.

Re: Asus RT-N66R Wan Speed

Like I said I have two of the RT-N66R routers. My main router will not work on gigabit WAN. I reset it and tried a few firmware's with no luck. I take my second router and reset it from AP only to normal mode. This unit WAN will run at gigabit. Both units are Ver B1 but one I bought like 5 months after the first one.

Are you substituting them so they are both tried under identical cables? If so, then it is the MODEM. Put in an RMA to ASUS.

First I've been using the WAN port will not run at 1000mb when plugged into the modem or my gigabit switch. I grabbed my second router and that connected at 1000mb right away when connected to my modem and switch. I used all the same cables as before. Not sure how long the warranty is for asus.

I misspoke, I meant it is your ASUS RT-N66R router, not the MODEM.

ASUS usually has 3yr warranty's. You go online register the product and then submit a ticket. I have never had to do this but this how it works if I remember. My guess is you would get a new router back.

Re: Asus RT-N66R Wan Speed

I got a RMA for my router but not sure if I'll do it. I have to pay to have shipped then wait a week or so for a replacement (hopefully). I might just say screw it and just go buy another one.
