Looks like it is $160 to get in the door and $30 for updates.

I wonder if I would use all of the features of vB right away, or if I could sneak away with phpBB at the start?

I may just bite the bullet and pay for a complete package though.

There is nothing wrong with using phpBB. I think it is easy to use and there are alot of upgrades for it. And best of all it is free.

EDIT:

Check out the MX Portal for phpBB also.

I created a local forum for sport bike riders (and cruiser bikes) in my area. Its at www.neoksportbikes.com. I used PHPBB2 and it holds up real well. Ive used hosting through www.dreamhost.com for over a year now. Very great hosting but the price ive paid for it is insane. Everyonce in a while they will enable a coupon code '777' for 130 dollars off a year. Normall its 140 so ive only paid 9 dollars for one full year.

I like http://www.ipowerweb.com/ for web hosting. It is under 100.00 a year with free domain name.

Well, here is an update:

I have the domain registered, a hosting plan in place, phpBB2 installed and the forum up and running (not ready to go live yet).

Now, I have one more question. My forum is accessed something like:

htp://www.DCRFORUM.com/forum

and when I simply access htp://www.DCRFORUM.com, I get the index page...does anyone know how to make a landing page like abxzone has or possibly just make htp://www.DCRFORUM.com go straight to the forum?
