Can I still do a fresh install of XP?

Micro$oft stopped support of XP a couple weeks ago. With that in mind, can I still do a fresh install of XP today, next year, in the year 2525?

I have a fresh, unused, sealed retail box of XP sitting on the shelf. I also have an opened and installed retail box of XP. Will they both do a fresh, automatic, install and activation? If they don't, can I still call Micro$oft and activate over the phone?

??? ???

I would think so, just because they don't update it you wouldn't think they wouldn't active it? But we are talking about MS here????? lol

Re: Can I still do a fresh install of XP?

Its a good question. Does ending support also mean ceasing activation?
I believe end of Windows XP support will not affect activation. But MS haven't specified how long that will continue.

The automatic activate over the internet will probably go on for quite a while. But I have heard of times where the internet activation method fails to activate XP and you have to call Micro$oft on the phone to activate. Will they now refuse and say to buy Windows 9.0?

Re: Can I still do a fresh install of XP?

Just bought (2 weeks ago) a "legacy" pc P-4. With XP on it as backup for my son who is studying with ACCA (UK) on line. It comes with XP and Retailer ran the activation for me.

I think so, but I think you can not update new software.
