Re: Msi gtx 1060

Both Afterburner and Precision no longer function properly. When Afterburner starts it consumes 30% + cpu usage and windows becomes sluggish as hell. I have no idea what caused this.

Precision functions the exact same also. After initial install with no settings changes the app won't open the gui at all.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled graphics driver, reverted to previous driver, AB multiple times. It seems to work initially; however, when I reboot or cold start, it begins this behavior again. I also tried an older version of AB (4.1 I think).

I reinstalled 381.89 so I have the latest driver again but I have no idea what to do about AB... I have searched for an answer but have had no luck in find one...

I am considering trying AB that came on the install disc (4.2).

Re: Msi gtx 1060

I quit using both of those apps...both are buggy to me, Sandog uses both and goes back and forth between the 2 and different version trying to find a stable one!

Re: Msi gtx 1060

I hope it is not the video card. Anyway, I would remove all software and start from scratch. Run this software.

Driver Cleaner

This will uninstall everything related to the video driver and then will disallow Windows to auto install a new one during reboot.

Then reinstall the latest NVidia drivers.

You cannot run more than one video card utility. You have to choose either Afterburner, Precision, GPU Tweak II, etc. They can interfere with one another.

I have been using GPU Tweak II for some time. I have a cool skin on it now. All I do it choose a game mode and then set a custom fan. I don't want my fan coming on late at +60C and I can keep my GPU below 75C with my fan profile as well. I think the default fan speed only goes to 65% speed.

One thing I discovered about GPU Tweak is how to save custom settings. That was killing me for a while. You have to do both 'Apply' and 'Save'. It is tricky how to do it when creating a custom fan profile. I choose GPU Tweak II because it knows the proper GPU voltage to apply under varying load. As long as it works I am good with it. I usually forget about it and let it run but sometimes I use the monitor window.

It would be great to be able to post pics again I tell you.

Re: Msi gtx 1060

definitly only have 1 video software installed. also do you really need physx software running on the 650ti? it is generally best to avoid configurations that tend to make you somewhat unique. the authors of the tweeking software might not have tested for your unique config. remove 650ti and retest.

Re: Msi gtx 1060

It turned out to be the OC on the 650. I had forgotten that it did NOT like any amount of OC.

But... hehehe

Re: Msi gtx 1060

There is an added bonus that I find hard to believe but the results are quite good.

I configured OBS to utilize NVENC for encoding and my streaming video quality has increased significantly.

Now I don't feel quite that embarrassed when I stream to twitch.

This was completely unexpected...

Re: Msi gtx 1060

@GWilakers

The purpose for running the 650 as a PhysX engine is for assisting with "Particles" rendering alone...

Older system where I ran a dedicated PhysX gpu did increase game performance when concerning things like shadows and particles etcetera. Maybe? LuL

On this system the 650 is actually utilized up to around 35% during gaming. This is not constant utilization but it does use it.
