Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

Hey guys just got in a cable for me Audioengine 5+ . I picked it up
at Guitar Center. Its a 10' speaker cable, Brand name Live Wire Elite.
12 gauge pure copper, 65 strand twisted pair with a thick jacket. Music
Sounds just great on me Audioengine 5+ speakers. For a two speaker
stereo system, and for pc music. It doesn't get much better. As for games
with the Asus sound card XONAR PHOEBUS its the top of the heap. I also
have a Topping usb amp coming in this Tuesday. I wanted to try a USB
amp, and Topping has some good reviews. Uhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AdLDokDWHs

Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

Very nice Skully, you still using the fancy headphones?

You really need something like that so you can plug your headphones into a good jack and have a quality headphone amp with volume control knob. The front panel 3.5mm headphone jack just doesn't cut it at all.

One thing nice about the N22 amplifier is the huge volume knob is easy to turn with minimal force required, is centered about 4" high off the desk, and is in a secure/weighted box. I don't like my speaker/headphone volume knobs being 1/4" off the desktop.

Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

Let us know how you like is Skully. Like I said when I started my audio speaker upgrade, there are tons of great modern audio equipment out there now and affordable to. I did good to get the Audioengine's but there are other very nice speakers and amps out there I could choose from. Heck, I even showed some cathode tube amps. Most awesome looking piece of electronic equipment you could buy.

Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

Well I'm tired of losing my foot space under my desk with the Corsair sub, so I'm thinking of getting the A5+ powered speakers in black (maybe white they would go good with my white case....now see if I can find a deal!

I would not hesitate to buy refurb from Audionengine. They just repair the amplifier in most cases and there is always a warranty. I don't know how these could fail actually. I have had great service from all my Audioengine sound equipment and fully expect it to last my lifetime. I see $100 cheaper on the A5's. Like I said I would not hesitate to get these. I have spoken to Audioengine on the phone several times. They made a couple of sets of audio cables for me and I questioned an issue where one speaker was dropping out when volume was minimal on the amp but I fixed it with changing Windows 2% increment to 1%. I am in Nirvana with my setup. There is only one thing I have to do and that is listen to good music. I need to listen to more IHEART HD audio stations and buy FLAC recordings. I plan to spend more time with it when I retire.

BTW, I have the S8, N22, P4's, and I tried the awesome D1 USB DAC. I returned it because of the Essence audio card. It sounded awesome but I wanted some 3D and gaming effects (DTS, and Dolby HP).

BTW, I should mention I tried not using my sub and boy it went right back behind the desk. Good luck accepting the loss of yours.

Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

Ordered a set of A5+ in white today from Amazon, should have them by Friday. I finally installed the drivers for the Asus Xonar U7 MKll and glad I did, lots of neat stuff in there...speakers and headphones sound much better, feel like a dummy for not installing them earlier.

Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

No, their bass is good enough for me. I have a 15" sub not
12' from me, on a 7.1 speaker system. So's when I want some
real bass I listen to it...

Yeah I have my 12" sub turned off for regular TV but when I watch a movie in 4K I turn that baby on and let her blast....lol...good to know about the A5+ having enough bass, listening to you and Sandog and all the reviews I've read about them made me join the club!

Re: Audioengine 5+ Premium Powered Speakers

You know I might like to get the A5+'s. I was trying to get bigger speakers a while back and tried the great SB ones but forgot why I didn't keep them.

I just found out yesterday that Audioengine has the HDP6 (passive) and it has the 1/4'' mounting hole on the bottom. That is what I would like but, it needs a much better amp than I have. See my P4's are kind of small and the N22 amp, well it only puts out 22Wrms/ch. That is not enough at all for the HDP6's.

Well I found this to power the HDP6's.

http://www.tpdz.net/en/products/tp60/index.htm

..but I think I would rather go with the A5+. It is just the right size speaker (5') and has 50Wrms/ch built in. Also, it keeps the nice warm character sound of Audioengine in tact. The only problem is losing the N22 amplifier volume control knob. I would have to use the KB which works but I don't want to give up my N22 control knob.
