* x299 aorus gaming 7 *

I went over to the dark side...
I've had the X299 AORUS just two days now. Gigabyte bios is
a real conundrum, just what an ole fart needs I tell ya
It sure keeps me out of trouble, terrible time getting the bios
flashed. UBS mouse not working and a few other things. But
once I got the bios upgraded it all smoothed out. It does have
some really nice features. OC button, oc's to 4700mhz using
only 1.21v for the core. Another big plus the vrm heatsink is
a real working heatsink with a heat pipe. Much, much cooler
then ASUS mobos. RGB lights are a real treat if ya like such.
I wanted the X299 AORUS GAMING 9, MC was out of stock on
the 9. It has more lighting, more then I think I'd like. Even
the back plate on the AORUS 7 is lit, nicest I've ever seem on
a rig period. I belive I could be quite happy with the AORUS 7.
I have the time to learn Gigabyte bios, it was time to change me
modus operandi. It does me 7900X right so far. Here's a CPU-Z
benchmark, and a pic of the X299 AORUS GAMING 7....

By the by good to be back, though I'd run off from home for a
few days...

Re: * x299 aorus gaming 7 *

Congrats Skully, why did you change mobo's? Gigabyte would be the only second choice for me.

In looking at a possible future upgrade to the 8700K which I would probably not OC, I like the ASUS mainstream WS class because of the multiple PCI slots and PCI 3.0 support. It is better than even my current HEDT mobo for PCI 3.0 support. But, I have fallen into the LED market with several ASUS Aura enabled devices and it is nice to have one app to control them all. With boards like the ASUS WS and Sabertooth you do not get the Aura feature. Still it wouldn't be hard for me to find a mobo. All I want is a PCI 3.0 16X and 4X for the VGA and the Intel SSD and PCI 2.0 1X for the audio card.

I might be upgrading here in a while. Believe it or not I would feel just as good or better with a 4.7GHz 6-core than a 3.9GHz 8-core which is what I am running at. It also would not bother me going from 32GB of quad-channel DDR4-2400 memory to 32/16GB of dual-channel DDR4-2666 memory.

Re: * x299 aorus gaming 7 *

Thanks Bud, remember I'm near to MC. If ASUS would of put out well
made X299 mobo's, I wouldn't have been doing this. I may not keep
The AORUS, its just a something to do. A fun learning project for 30
days, then back to MC returns, and ASUS. it gets boring when your
the only one with a mobo, and no one else has one, on the same forum.
When I do a mini review, I feel like I'm talking to myself. you know the feeling.
When you and I had the same mobo or Ken, then it was more interesting.
I do this to keep interested in PC's; or else it would be a dead end game.
We are down to 4/5 members that are regulars, Who come here, with any interest in PC's.
We really are on life support here @ ABXzone. Its the reason
I took a few days off. Just got tired of talking to myself. I had nothing to
talk about or nothing to add after my last post. Its no ones fault, its just
everything has a life cycle and ABXzone is on its death bed. Its been a
wonderful place to learn and help folks with their PC problems. I even learned to write poetry here,
and the Stardust thread a wonderful tool, to help lift our members spirits in tough times.
And to say we care. who would of imagined such. I have invested more time, money, and ya heart,
trying to keep myself and this forum interesting. As you also Sandog have done, as also Ken/zap.
Its just like myself getting old, I'll be 74 yrs soon. I grew old along
with ABXzone, and may even go out together. I've made a lot of friends
along the way, got to meet a few. We've seem some real heart ache with
members suffering/passing. Including me, the Cancer thread was a BIG
help to me when I had cancer. ABXzone has been many things to me.
Its a second home, lots of interesting folks, who became friends. Anywho
me and Choo-Choo will keep chugging down life's track until we don't.

* Love ya all * including me past ABX buds, Choo-Choo reminded me to
Load the ABX stardust cannons with stardust, As we pull out of the ABX
station he wants to pull the Lanyard to fire the cannons.

FV, you have been the most helpful to me over the years. I certainly appreciate all your info and links.

PC's as a hobby for me is winding down. It's a non zero-sum game. Now I prefer travel, reading books with real paper, and Scotch on the Rocks in a heavy glass tumbler!

Keep your spirits up remember we do appreciate what you do.

I'm watching and learning Gigabyte bios on Utube. Its a mess,
compared to ASUS bios. I'm surprised Gigabyte hasn't came up
with a better/easier to understand bios, after all these years...
Plus I've been having UBS mouse/key board drop outs...

If they can't get usb mouse connectors to work right, that's not a good sign?

Re: * x299 aorus gaming 7 *

BIOS chips have two flavors. There was American Megatrends (AMI) and Phoenix/Award. Gigabyte stuck with the opposite ASUS uses. I have had ASUS boards a long time ago where it was a matter of cost which BIOS brand they flipped to when new mobo came out. I remember getting a new board and it would be a surprise until you booted up to find out which BIOS it used . Also funny was they used to benchmark these things. ASUS has stuck with one brand now (AMI) for a long time. Intel has used both before as well. It is hard to see the brand name anymore with todays UEFI screens. Before when your PC booted up the first thing you saw was the company logo staring you in the face. Brings back old memories. I remember getting a new system and you could tell it was faster because the screen lines scrolled faster as the BIOS loaded . Those were the days!

Yea I hear ya, I do remember just what your saying...
I'll keep playing around, if things don't get better soon.
I'll switch back to PRIME X299 Deluxe, I had it running
smooth @ 4.9 GHZ. I got hooked on the siren call of
