I would like to upgrade later this year, can't figure what way to go, I would like a MB with enough pci-e lanes to have 2 x samsung nvme drivers running at full speed and my 980Ti at full speed...so I guess that's 24 lanes?????

Re: Asus Rampage Vl Extreme Review!

If you go with ASUS there are a number of very good mobos.
It also depends on your budget/or how much ya want to spend
on a new mobo. You'd want something that has the best setup
for 2 x samsung nvme drives. I'm hoping the new RVIE has a
good setup for nvme drives...

Here is the way to go for that assuming you are staying mainstream. I used current Z270 chipset mobo's for this example.

Capture.JPG

The Z270 chipset is nice because every single slot is capable of PCIe 3.0. That is not even the case on my RV10E. But, you can see in the pic that the left side mobo has a max of 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes you can use. Now the Work Station on the right has a max of 32 PCIe 3.0 lanes. Also, all the PCI slots are 16X mechanical. The way it provides 32 PCIe lanes is with a secondary PCI controller chip.

The Z370 will have 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes so you should be able to run a X16 video card and two X4 PCIe SSD's without the need of a third party PCI controller.

Skully, here are some awesome pics of the mobo.

ASUS Republic of Gamers Rampage VI ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME B&H

Shows HS underneath and you can zoom in and even read the make of the IC's. You also get a nice video card support bracket.

Yea its quite a head turner for sure. Most likely I'll wind up with a RAMPAGE VI EXTREME mobo their just to well made to not want to own one.
I've always had a thing for mobo's. I enjoy their looks and just like messing with them. I've had more mobo's then I can remember. Thanks for the link.
I may even go first with APEX then with ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME...

Re: Asus Rampage Vl Extreme Review!

The RVIE would be the one for you Skully. Just keep playing musical mobo's at MC until one comes in.

I was thinking, if I had your CPU and the new RVIE I would not keep that thing on the floor. Nope, that beautiful disco board would go in a case like this and sit to my right on top of my desk.

You read my mind, I'm having fun with the mobo's
waiting on APEX. Then is down to real business for me...

Re: Asus Rampage Vl Extreme Review!

No, no APEX yet, so far PRIME X299 DELUXE, ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E, X299 AORUS GAMING 7,
of those three PRIME X299 DELUXE is top dog, no question.
I'm back on PRIME X299 DELUXE its the best for oc'ing and ease of use. Much
more stable then AORUS GAMING 7. I can run 4.9ghz oc stable on the PXD.
I couldn't even get 4.8ghz oc stable on the AG7 mobo. Plus the AG7 had a plethora of other problems,
slow bios, some parts not even working right.
Believe me I gave the AG7 a real workout. WoW! was I glad to be back to PXD
mobo. Its its setting here purring away nary a problem, 1080ti led lights
now working fine, Years ago I used Gigabyte mobo's, now I see why I changed
to ASUS. I guess I needed a reminder, after being in Gigabyte hell...
