iPhone 8 and X

Gee, the new iPhones dont offer someone like me much over my iPhone 7+
I'm keen on the OLED but the premium price of the X is a lot to pay for it.
I'm not really fussed about the cameras as I've never seen the iPhone as a camera killer, its just not the right shape to support a decent lens.
The extra CPU grunt is great but so far processing power has never been an issue on my 7+. These improvements are all great of course, but they're not anything I really need.
I'm also concerned with no Home button as I use that a lot for app switching.
I guess I'll have to just try it in store to see if theres any benefit.
We use these things so much that any productivety improvement is worth it over time.

The face recognition seems creepy to me. I use the fingerprint touch ID and its great but I'm not sure I like the idea of my face being mapped, even if its just stored locally. What if its hacked?

I guess in the end apps will drive us to upgrade. They will require the increased system resources and features eventually.

Re: iPhone 8 and X

Just on facial recognition again, while it may be convenient not having to touch any buttons to access the phone, I think it may be a retrograde step from the security perspective. While my finger print for Touch ID would be difficult to hack it seems photos of people are easy to acquire.
Whats to stop someone defeating the system with a photo?

Re: iPhone 8 and X

My thoughts exactly! Just got the 7+ a few months ago knowing the newer phones would be out soon. Nothing they have added is a game changer for me. iOS 11 may be a different story!

fv, lets not turn this into a fan-boy argument, (not saying you or I are fan-boy's) but many iPhone users would never switch to Android and I'm one of them. I prefer my phone doesnt spy on me. Also, i want a phone that "just works" without having to configure and manage too often and iPhone has always been perfect that way.

I've been reading up on Face ID and Apple is claiming its very secure, even more secure than Touch ID. Will have to wait and see what the security people think of it.

Yep, iOS 11 sounds very interesting.

Re: iPhone 8 and X

Flip, I've just realised the X is physically smaller and lighter than my 7+, thats potentially a 7+ killer for me. Bigger screen, and smaller case makes the phone a lot more usable. Woohoo! I need to go check one if these out for myself.

Re: iPhone 8 and X

I have had 3 Ipads, my wife has a Ipad....I prefer Google photos, free unlimited storage....I have a Nexus 6P, I get monthly security updates, just got Android 8 (the latest). I'm on the Google Fi cell network for a year now and my last bill is the highest of the year $27 month for unlimited text, calls and the data I used....so choice is nice and everyone to there own....by the way when Apple demoed the face recognition it failed on the first phone had to use a backup, I watched the whole thing from Apples new place, by the it looked really nice!!

I saw that, such a classic bungle. Face ID has to work reliably or it will be a big issue for them, thats for sure.

I do forget about the diminutive members of society. Good points!
