Re: Intel i7- 8700K Reviews!

Awesome. Not quite the bang-for-buck of Ryzen, but performance is slightly better in gaming. Apps that use the extra cores get decent gains.

I think the i5-8600K part is the one to watch as it should be a great over-clocker.

Re: Intel i7- 8700K Reviews!

My opinion of the 8700K is kind of getting blah. First, it turns out it only has 16-lanes. Next, I looked at AnandTech's review only so far and they make the excuse they only got the 8700K 3-days ago and do not have any OC data. It also appears in the benchmarks I previewed many of which the 7700K wins in speed, I might be wrong on this. Lastly, apparently the 8700K is getting very hot at stock 4.7GHz single core (high-eighties C) and Intel is feeding it like +1.3V. This is what you will be gaming at folks. I want it to game at 4.7GHz but I don't want close to 90C and over 1.3V to do it. I guess this is how you reach 4.7GHz stably according to Intel. Looks like Intel is into OCing now.

You picked the wrong review Sandog, lots of reviews where 5ghz on all cores, not one mentioned Thad type of heat, 8700 beats the 7700 in all test i've seen, I put in at least 5 hours today reading and watching YouTube reviews.

Re: Intel i7- 8700K Reviews!

Here's one review of PC Perspective...

For our quick overclocking, we were able to get the Core i7-8700K to run at 5.1 GHz, all cores enabled, fully loaded. Temperatures were pretty high, in the upper-80C range with a 240mm AIC cooler from Corsair, but everything was completely stable through our continued testing and benchmarking. We ran the CPU at 1.2v.

Re: Intel i7- 8700K Reviews!

I think the 8700K overclocks pretty well from what I've read, but I think the 8600K will have a lot more headroom. I do think the chip runs a liitle hot... but if those reviews are reliable then its within the design envelope.
This overclockability of Coffee Lake will drive sales over Ryzen because it increases the bang-for-buck for Intel while keeping performance ahead.

I will be glad if Ryzen can capture some decent market share though, just for the competition it brings.

Re: Intel i7- 8700K Reviews!

You know what really gets me is only 16 pci-e lanes, lots of new 370 MB have 2 to 4 M.2 slots but what the hell for, 1 video card and all your lanes are gone (unless you run it at 8X, which I'm doing right now so I can run my 950 Pro). I'm going to wait and see what happens when more MB's come out, this upgrade I'm going to do is on a fixed budget, so I want it to last. I might go with the X299 Apex like Skully's and 7820X, you know me I run it stock, so heat isn't going to be problem, and at least I have 28 lanes to play with!

Re: Intel i7- 8700K Reviews!

I might still get the 8700K but not until the Asus 370WS comes out with the added lanes from the PEX8747 chip, I still have to do more reading on that chip.

It still may be worth reading their manual on the Z270's. Very thorough!
