16 gig or 32 gigs?

How about some input on 16 or 32 gigs of ram for my new build? I have a little gadget on my desktop and I never see it go over 6 gigs....but I found a deal on Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 2666 (PC4-21300) 2666MHz C15 kit for $319 at Amazon....I don't think this price will hold, the same ram for $214 for the 16 gig kit....what do you think think, is 16 gigs still good enough?

Re: 16 gig or 32 gigs?

Get the 32, easier to cut back if req’d. Me - 16 is fine. In either case I like as few dimm slots populated.

Thanks Jim, the Apex has only 4 slots, so either kit will fill it....I was leaning that way, I called B&H today to see they would price match Fry's $499 for the 7820X but they wouldn't, the darn tax here is almost $50, so I'm waiting for B&H to have a sale. If I got the 16 gig kit the money saved would get my Noctua cooler.....lol...wish I would win the lottery!

Re: 16 gig or 32 gigs?

Well I got the 32 gig kit, seemed like a really good deal, double the ram for $100....I had $130 in Amazon $ so a little over $200 out of pocket...well I'm committed now...lol

Wonder how 32g impacts the swap file?

Re: 16 gig or 32 gigs?

16GB of RAM ought to be enough for anyone. Mark these words, to be quoted and laughed at in a few decades.

Is the jury still out on Intel Optane?

Re: 16 gig or 32 gigs?

I'd go with 32GB Corsair's 2666 CL15.

You had 2x8GB for dual channel so you should get 4x8GB for quad channel.

I love the RAM I've got. Going higher in freq. doesn't have as good an effect as lower latency. Usually higher freq. has higher latency so it negates the performance increase. I have CL12 which is very low plus it is only 1.2V. Nobody comes close to that latency at 1.2V. Not even Corsair any more. You can still get my kit at Corsair but it is around $400.

Re: 16 gig or 32 gigs?

I like 32G of ram, my main reason is I use ASUS RamCash II, I can
use up to 28G of ram for a virtual ram drive. The ASUS RamCash II is different
then the ole creating a virtual drive. That you had to log on to, to use.
It uses your whole C: drive, and starts up every time you boot onto the
deasktop. If you get the APEX VI Ken, you'll love the ASUS RamCash II
app, browser and other apps come up right now... I've had the full
28G of ram as cache memory, I've just lowered it to 6G of cache. Getting
32G of ram and the APEX VI you'll have lots of memory to play with...
