Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Hey guys, I was annoyed at the RGB LED cables going over the top of my mobo. I have been dying to fix it ever since I installed the water block LED's. I thought it was going to be tough but I found a way and did not need any new extension cables. I also straightened out the CPU power cables and got rid of the hose ties. Here is a pic of a mucho cleaned up top-end.

In other news, I am working on getting a 1080Ti with the ROG swoosh.

Yeah they do but in order to water cool it you lose the ROG backplate. I had a chance to snag a Poseidon the other day but I was at work ATT. It is a very rare card and as soon as I put in an auto notify, they got one but someone else snagged it. A STRIX Ti plus water block = $1K, the Poseiden is $849 if I can ever find a new retail box. You get the Ti, ROG swoosh, and water block with the Poseidon.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Hope you find that Poseidon, sounds like a deal. Won't your block work on a TI?

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Also today I checked into making a custom template for the APEX nameplate. There is a jumper you change to enable the LED.

My block won't work with a Ti and if it did it would be the same, I would not be able to attach the factory ROG backplate.

I have researched other GPU full water blocks that allow you to keep the factory ASUS backplate. Phantek makes one but you are adding another $150 on to an already $800 card. Most GPU water blocks are for reference or Founders Edition cards anyway. With the Poseidon you get everything, even a STRIX quality PCB. Not that pretty of a card though. Have you seen it?

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Well my past 2 mobo experiences with loading ASUS OC profiles had me wincing. They were pretty extreme. But surprisingly, the one on the APEX is not bad at all.

Normally, the APEX and Skylake 7820 and 7900 can do 4.5GHz on two cores but I never see it happening. With ASUS Multicore Enhancement it does better. Now, enabling the ASUS OC profile for my CPU puts 3-cores @ 4.5GHz and it follows on down; 4-cores @ 4.4GHz, 6-cores @ 4.3GHz, and all 10-cores @ 4.1GHz.

Now I see my cores running at 4.5GHz quite often and it is not a select 3 cores but any of the 10 cores run at 4.5GHz at least as I see it in HWM. Also, this OC does not raise my voltage or temps as far as I can see. I have left it in this OC profile for a week now. Here are some pics and the first one with the cache at 2400MHz is wrong. I have cache min/max set to auto and in CPU-Z it shows 2700MHz.

180106171206.jpg

180106171232.jpg

180106171241.jpg

I am loving this OC, it does not really feel like a OC at all but it is giving me very good performance on my CPU. For years I have wanted a CPU that would do around 4.5GHz on a couple of cores for gaming purposes but would also run at 0W when idle. I finally got there but it took a 10-core CPU lol.

Here it is.

ROG-POSEIDON-GTX1080TI-P11G-GAMING | Graphics Cards | ASUS USA

Also, I would go to a 1080 Ti only if I planned on water cooling it. Also, I have read about the upcoming NV cards and the GPU is just getting bigger and bigger and more expensive. I predict $650 will be the mid-range card.

I would like to get the 1080 Ti Poseidon but don't know if it is possible anymore to get a new one.

I think thats a nice looking card, in your rig you won't even see the fans only the backplate and the top of the card....I'll keep a eye out for one!

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Wow, I can't believe I even tried to do this. Forget about making a nameplate. It is the dumbest thing I ever did. Cutting letters out of paper, then use the paper cutout to cut letters out of a piece of adhesive tape. *D*U*M*B* I can't believe I fell for it. You would be better off with a box of Cracker Jacks. I thought it was a 3D printer piece but it is nothing of the sort. I should be doing better things lol but the enthusiast bug got me.

nameplate.jpg

Also, I could not locate the screws in the box for the nameplate. And guess what? The box contents listed in the manual is not what comes in the box screw wise.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

I dug up some info. on the APEX DIMM.2 slots. First I said before that one side was PCIe X4 and the other SATA X4. Well the two DIMM.2 card adapters that come with the APEX are PCIe X4 on both sides. With a 44-lane CPU you could actually install both cards with 4 M.2 SSD's. Still, these adapters have a ton of pins across the bottom but the manual says only 4X. If you can RAID them right, it will only read one at a time.

1484341061221.jpg

Also, the way that our board DIMM's are layed out with RAM in slots 1 & 2, 3 is blank, and M.2 adapter in slot 4, you can install one of Corsairs RAM coolers. This is the best way to cool your M.2 adapter card because Corsair has 2x40mm quality fans in the cooler plus it has LED's.

That cooler looks awesome, I had a corsair cooler years ago, similar to that but no way near as good looking...no leds back then...lol

Here ya go.

Dominator Airflow Platinum RGB Fan

You could take them apart and spray paint the top aluminum white. That would look totally awesome in your case beside the Noctua.
