Every since I had the Corsair K90 with that volume wheel i've been in love with that style of volume control, I use it a bunch everyday...but Corsairs software is worse than Asus's, which is hard to do, so I never went back to Corsair...only time and reviews will tell if this Keyboard is good! Morning Jim, my weather station says we have had 1.05 inches of rain since midnight and boy do we need it!

Re: My New Keyboard...ASUS ROG Strix Flare!

Nice keyboard, I will keep it in mind. It has the normal level keys, the right size, the right ROG look. I will see what the Ducky YotDog looks like before I buy.

Re: My New Keyboard...ASUS ROG Strix Flare!

I am getting psyched up for this keyboard. I know I get a lot of hardware but I am overdue on a keyboard. Been running with the YOTS since 2013. It is a fine keyboard but I have been very patient for the right RGB one to come along.

I tried comparing the new Flare to previous Ducky RGB. They are both using Cherry RGB switches so it depends how far down they are recessed as to how much light comes out. I can't tell much of a difference. The photo of the Flare here is Photoshopped.

ROG Strix Flare | ROG - Republic Of Gamers | ASUS USA

I went to CES 2018 on YT and browsed the news stories on the fFare. I like the ROG emblem at the top. It also makes sense to have the volume control on the left side so you can keep your right hand on the mouse if you need to. The way I have my keyboard angled the left side is closer to me. Like I said, both the Ducky and the Flare share the same key switches so the differences are really added features and aesthetics. The Flare would utilize AURA and have plenty of modes just like the Ducky. The Flare also looks fairly conservative besides being RGB. It is just a standard 104 key with a volume control. It looks like it has a nice removable wrist rest as well.

The Flare should be available by the end of March.

Re: My New Keyboard...ASUS ROG Strix Flare!

ASUS builds very good stuff. There has long been no other choice for mobo's except Intel and ASUS for me but the way the STRIX video cards are layed out and built, there is no equal IMO. The Essence audio card is the Mercedes Benz of audio cards and ASUS routers are pretty good as well. I might as well have that ROG emblem on all my stuff and share the same LED software control.

One important fact about purchase selection is being able to control the LED's. If the LED's were always on bright and flashing like a carnival I would not be able to tolerate it. I am a mediocre fan of RGB LED's but nowadays the highest performance hardware incorporates LED's so you really have no choice. With LED's, I have to set the intensity down and usually select a mellow single color mode. ASUS has AURA for this and it works and is already in place for my monitor, mobo, video card, and mouse. The greatest sales marketing scheme is to be able to associate multiple products together. If someone loves their video card and won't get rid of it that can lead to buying everything else associated with it. Corsair is trying to do the same thing and you tend to fall into one camp or the other.

I recently tried one ASUS keyboard, I think this one will suit me better.

Re: My New Keyboard...ASUS ROG Strix Flare!

ROG Strix Flare

The new Strix Flare from ROG combines a mixture of Cherry MX RGB switches, with funky Auraenabled RGB backlighting and a driver that cloaks the keyboard to stop games blocking your important macros. The Strix Flare is a full-sized mechanical keyboard which will be available in a wide variety of Cherry MX RGB switches including Cherry MX red, blue, black, and brown. The Flare will also be available in one of the latest additions to the Cherry MX line up announced last year, the Cherry MX silver design which features a shorter actuation point of only 1.2mm and a maximum travel distance of 3.4mm; for reference the Cherry MX red switch has a 2mm actuation point and a 4mm total travel distance.

Other features present include N-key rollover, RGB backlighting which can be customized via the ASUS Aura software. Touching more on the RGB, the Strix Flare has up to 13 different lighting effects which include the new raindrop and current patterns, or if you're not a fan of RGB, you can, of course, switch them off completely. In addition to bright RGB switches, the Flare has made the tray bed white to increase the effectiveness of the lighting and has also included nine LEDs along the edges for extra glow, which can all be controlled independently. In a twist from conventional keyboard designs, ASUS ROG has placed a set of media controls on the top left-hand side including an aluminum volume wheel. The reasoning behind this is so gamers needn't take their hand off the mouse to make adjustments while gaming, something which will either be appreciated or not. The wrist rest is also detachable if you wish to remove it.

Looking forward to it. The only bad thing I see right now is more ASUS software.

I looked and the support page is working.

I think I will like this keyboard and the volume knob but I am worried about the software. ROG Armoury software could kill the experience for me.
