Video card scarcity.

I have never been distressed before about PC parts like I am now. Memory never did it for me but this video card shortage is the real deal. There is nothing out there worth a flip. 1080 Ti's have virtually disappeared. Google 1080 Ti on Amazon and see what you get. They are going for well over $1K. Even my 1080 is up to $750 if you can find it. I am afraid this is a real shortage due to the Emperium mining or what ever it is called. I even saw a mobo ASUS made that has like 20 VGA slots on it. I think Asia is scarfing them up to use in mining.

Here is the mobo.

Re: Video card scarcity.

I don't know if we will be able to get a video card worth a crap in the future. They are going for outrageous sums. People are scarfing them up to do mining, bunch of lazy bastards.

Look at Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ds=GTX+1080+Ti

All out of stock.

gtx 1080 ti, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, Desktop Graphics Cards, Video Cards Video Devices, Components - Newegg.com

Look at the pricing on the 1080's

Re: Video card scarcity.

I could have bought an EVGA Hydro Copper 1080 Ti for $829 last night and sold it for $1200 easy on Ebay.

Re: Video card scarcity.

I missed the shot of the year. I auto-notified NE and they found a Poseidon but I was at work. I got home and it was gone. That was a week ago and I'm still crying. I found a EVGA Hydro Copper 1080 Ti for $829 last night on EVGA shop but was holding out for the Poseidon. Well it is gone and EVGA has 0 Ti's now. I could have bought that and sold it for $1250 easy, probably $1500.

EVGA - Products - EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 TI SC Hydro Copper GAMING, 11G-P4-6399-KR, 11GB GDDR5X, Hydro Copper Waterblock & LED - 11G-P4-6399-KR

Yeah but RAM is still $300-$400 and it is available. Try $1000-$1500 for a video card and none are available. As soon as they appear they are gone. They are all being used for mining by greedy, lazy bastards. Buy NV stock now.

I had a bid on my 1080 for $600 and now I would sell it for more. I stopped the auction due to non availability of a new Ti.

Re: Video card scarcity.

No not that I am aware of and also, I mentioned earlier that one of the reasons I want a water cooled Ti is the new cards are going to be huge and therefore hot or hotter than the Ti. I think mainstream will be around $650 and top end 2080/Ti will be around $850-$1K. I tell you, prices do not look to be getting better on video card at all.

Re: Video card scarcity.

Cryptocurrency mining is causing the shortage - driven by Bitcoin and Ethereum. GPU architectures are far more efficient at this than CPUs, and there's some real money to be made.

Re: Video card scarcity.

Amazing. I would have thought mining cryptocurrency at home would not be cost or time effective!

So people are using GPU's why? Is it because they're cheaper than CPU's?

[edit] so i read this and will must accept it:
As their name implies, GPUs are logic chips specifically designed for rending pictures and videos on a computer screen. They're mostly used for gaming to render 3D graphics in realtime. Unlike a Central Processing Unit (CPU), which is responsible for coordinating and executing commands from a computer's hardware and software, GPUs were designed so that they would be really efficient at repeatedly performing the same operation very quickly.
