I think the rear assist fan blowing inward would be coolest but I think I will have it blowing outward so less dust comes in. I will have to see what the filter is like and how to clean it. Obviously if you change the fan around you have to change the filter around or maybe not use a filter if the air is blowing out the back. I don't know how to reach the fan/filter from the inside with my big HSF in the way.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

I haven't researched it fully but 4-way optimization is listed for the Deluxe mobo and not the STZ87. The review at Guru 3D where I posted the links before mentions AI Suite and over-clocking so I think it can still do that.

4-way optimization does deal with over-clocking BTW. One of the four optimizations is TPU and that is what controls the CPU performance. I have to read the Guru 3D review closely. It doesn't matter though as I will probably order this mobo today.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

One other thing, the thermal radar feature is not exciting to me ATT. I will have to look into it but I don't think it will offer much from what I know now plus I plan on using my case fans at max speed anyway. I don't want to add any additional cables inside if it requires it.

NE has a couple of reviews already and you can view the pic of the box contents. Shows the filter, back I/O plate, cables, etc. I would have preferred to get 6 SATA III cables for all 6 Intel ports instead of only 4 but that is all I need. I do plan on disabling the ASmedia SATA controller.

I have looked at it and I like what I see!

That may not be the coolest configuration, but if I use them, that's the way I will configure them because I don't want to pull air (and dust) in from the back of the case.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

Thanks. When I look at the illustration at the ASUS site, it shows both fans blowing inward.

"1 x Adhesive Sponge(s) for 35mm Fan"?

Very interesting board. I like the 5-yr warranty!!!!

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

Opened the STZ87 Qualified Venders List for Memory. The STZ87 has been qualified all the way up to DDR 3000MHz.

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...7_DRAM_QVL.pdf

It just goes to show the STZ87 specifications page on the ASUS site is not always complete or precise. It does not mention 4-way optimization feature but it still may be there.

Yes it is. Some of the pics and diagrams in the STZ87 manual say Deluxe. I did find out about the 4-way optimization. It is not included with STZ87 like I was saying earlier.

Here is a shot of STZ87 AI Suite menu bar. The STZ87 has Thermal Radar 2 in the left box and the Deluxe has 4-Way Optimization. I won't be utilizing much of any of this suite there is no OCing involved. I will just use BIOS performance/auto mode and learn to play with it. Normally I just run case fans max. After an overclock I check temps and voltages once or twice then forget about it. The AI Suite for this board is only slightly more useful than my current ROG board which isn't saying much but the BIOS is going to be fun and the board itself is a winner. That is just my opinion for how I use my board. Others might find the STZ87 AI Suite very useful. I will try it out of course because I haven't really seen it yet.
Capture4.JPG

Here is the Radar 2 window.
Capture3.JPG

Here is the fan page, there are two more in depth windows for fan controls with the Radar 2 sensors which I did not show.
Capture5.JPG

Here is the Z87 TUFF CPU-z skin.
