Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

I think it will all work out great. The Corsair H90 was an unforeseen upgrade and I really wanted to stay away from water but in reading about the i7-4770K I don't think I have a choice. I don't think I would sit still very long if I couldn't OC my CPU so it is better to try and take care of business sooner than later. Whatever I get out of the CPU with the Corsair H90 will have to satisfy me because I cannot improve on it with a bigger water cooler. I will test the H90 out first before I mount it above my GTX 780.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

BTW, the Corsair H90 suits me pretty well for a sealed water system. It doesn't have LED's, USB, or software. It is just a quiet dependable pump hooked up to 12V. I should be able to monitor the pump motor rpms in BIOS or AI Suite.

Sabertooth Z87 Trivia:
On the Sabertooth there are only 2 LED's. One to tell you the mobo is in standby, and the other to tell you the mobo is off. Therefore if you are running there would be no LED's lit.

I'm pretty keen on this board so far and looking forward to hearing about ur experience w it too Sandog, both build and operation. I think u cant go wrong with this board due to the high standard of construction and quality of the components.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

Not that I need it but this mobo has the new Realtek ALC1150 audio codec. 8ch and 115dB SNR. It is suppose to sound superior to previous chips.

I plan on backing up files tomorrow and then get the STZ87 Tuesday. I will have a lot of work to do getting it installed right with software so I will probably be off line a couple of nights and won't have much good info. until around the end of the week.

That's good to hear, because I will be using the on-board audio.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

The STZ87 also has ASUS Remote Go!

http://portfolio.realclear.com.tw/AS...Features-1.htm

From my understanding you can use your network connected wireless router to send files between your desktop and your smart devices like PADs and smart phones.

My bad, the STZ87 has 5 total LED's
  1. DRAM
  2. Standby/Power
  3. VGA
  4. CPU
  5. Boot device

Me too, the ALC1150 is definitly a premium audio solution with some great apps; i dont see any need for an after market.

Box contents.

It looks like the rear filter plugs into the rear I/O chassis bracket. Also notice there are caps for the rear 3.5mm audio jacks lol.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z87

BTW, there are several thermistor cables you can plug into the mobo that will read temps wherever you want to tape them. I won't be fooling with these but if you are the type who needs to know what his ambient temps are, you can tie one of these near you front case input fans and you will know exactly what your ambient temp. is (instead of guessing or looking at your thermostat).

Hey Squid

I think you picked a winner here with the ST. Still surprised you dropped the Intel. I would have never expected that. Enjoy your board and I am looking forward to the reviews. Next week ought to be exciting!!!

Take Care.

Yeah I just think I will enjoy the Sabertooth better. It is a very cool looking board. Very utilitarian and built like a tank. I think it will suit me better in the long run and still allow fun with OCing. I was looking at getting tons of features for my last board (like the Intel) but then I thought what will I exactly use in the future and pretty much it will be just what the Sabertooth brings.

BTW, I read somewhere in a thread about orienting the VREG assist fan in the Sabertooth but I can't find it. Seeing tonight that the air filter is right behind the ASUS Q-chassis plate, I can get a vacuum brush behind my computer and vacuum it off easily therefore I will have mine blowing into the case.

It will be fun having the GTX 780 blowing air inside the case and having a radiator cooling an OC'd 4770K.

Sandog. I am also very interested in this board, but have held off getting it until I hear more about the known chipset USB issue (affect on USB devices when enter/exit from S3 sleep state). I will be very interested in hearing your thoughts after you get your new system up and running. If you don't mind, please also check some USB devices response to S3 sleep state. Thanks
