Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

Thanks for cleaning this up. This board should have a separate thread.

If the '97 is at least as good as the '87, it's a winner. I like what they did with the additional features.

My '87 will be a year old this Aug, can't really find anything negative to say about it.

Don't plan on any upgrades this year, still trying to formulate a cohesive long term plan. I am still interested in an iMac. I scan the iMac forums daily. To say the least, it's a different type crowd over there.

I am strongly considering going to an IMac as well ... I bought my wife a 27" version for Christmas this past year and she loves it. I've gotten to play with it a fair amount in the past few months and like it a lot. One thing is for sure if should you need service you won't get the run around like you get with many of the other companies. Apple's service is second to none!

Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

Hey FVB, thanks for starting this thread!

I bought the Z97-WS early Saturday morning right after I received notification it was in stock at NE. I really like the Z87-WS as much as I have ever liked a mobo and pretty much thought that I was set. The Z97 is basically the same as the Z87-WS but with some future I/O support, software and BIOS enhancements, and future CPU compatibility. Although having the same LGA 1150 socket I don't know how it can run a different CPU than the Z87. I would have stuck to the Z87 but ASUS really put a better shine on it with the Z97. I also want to be sure I can get the Haswell-K refresh chip when it comes out or maybe the Xeon refresh.

Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

I don't really buy into a Macintosh PC. Every one of the plusses can be deflated. The only reason I could see is if you enjoy the Mac OS but seeing how MS Windows and Office is used primarily in business, gov't, and schools I will never change. The main negative with a Mac as I see it is extreme cost and zero upgradability outside of its generation. All the benefits of a Mac can be met with a PC even iPad/iPhone device support but you are not locked into fixed components. Every piece of hardware from CPU to monitor can be equaled or surpassed in performance or quality with PC components.

Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

I might add that there are many more reasons to stick with a PC IMO. I don't think Apple quite has a case yet like a Corsair Obsidian. My love of the PC is only surpassed by my ability to buy new hardware upgrades. And three, you are basically killing your account at ABXZone LOL.

I concur, I for one did own an IMac 27" yea it was ok. But it eliminated the upgrade process,
also the roll your own rig process. No more posting of new memory, new HD's, pc cases. video cards, speakers, water cooling, fans, mobo's,
trouble shooting post, no more *stardust*, Along with all me ABX buds gone, and into oblivion. The death of ABXZONE. All things and I mean
all things on Earth, and the Earth its self. Have life cycles from babies through middle age to death... It looks like ABX is going into its death cycle...
Its the nature of things...

That's 2 YouTube videos on the Z97-WS JJ has done, he must be tired of it lol. IMO, the WS board is the best ASUS board. It gives you the best dependability, the most I/O's, the most graphics cards, and some of the best OCing if you desire of any ASUS mobo. The only things missing is aesthetics and some of the WiFi/BT features of the Deluxe but if you need those you can buy ASUS discrete card products.

Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

OK, I am trying to back up my argument with facts on iMAC vs. PC.

Here are your only options for current iMac Pro which I believe you guys are referring to getting. The only other Apple desktop available is the iMac which doesn't have a case.

http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/specs/

The top of the line LGA 2011 CPU for this $3999 peanut butter jar computer you'll be stuck with is this:

Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

What's the new cpu that's coming out with a 4 ghz clock and a 4.5 turbo? I read about out fishing but it was early in the morning and can't remember it? I might upgrade this fall, motherboard, cpu and ram, and the Z97- WS is on my short list!

Re: Asus Z97-WS Motherboard!

Congrats on the new purchase Sandog. Let us know when it's up and running.

IRT the iMac. I just really enjoy the Apple Infastructure and their OS. Yes, cost to benefit is a bit shaky, however if you upgrade the PC like I do, that can be expensive as well. So having an iMac with limited upgrade options may be a good thing. Not to mention the fact, that all I really use my PC for is surfing, accounting, and emails. Gaming is not high on my preferences any more.

We'll see. Nothing is cast in concrete. Will not be spending monies on upgrades for my rig till I decide the long term plan.
