Re: * rampage v extreme *

I've upgraded my cpu to a i7-5930k, for a couple of reasons. More pci lanes
from 28 up to 40. The memory controller on the Intel i7-5820, had a
memory controller that was a weak willy. With the new i7 5930, the memory
controller is way better. I can get 47mhz oc into windows. But its not stable,
maybe with more playing with voltages, I can get it stable.
The i7 5820 I couldn't even get into windows @ 47. 46mhz oc stable for sure.
It reads all my installed memory correct... Ya I'm a wee happier camper with the
i7-5930k

Thanks Ken, thats what I was thinking, plus a weak memory controller helped
push me towards the i7 5930K...

Its not temps that will kill me cpu, its high voltage thats the killer...
Anywho I wanted to see how far this cpu would go. 47+ stable is
a killer of a cpu. I'll not run that kind of speed 24/7. I'm still looking
for me everyday oc, with cpu/memory...

Glad you got it worked out, must have been a bad CPU especially if you can OC so much higher now. You can also do true 16X SLI mode now if you want.

Re: * rampage v extreme *

Congrats on the new CPU Skully!

It's always nice to have those extra PCI-e lanes.

I would pull back from the 1.499 Volts to the CPU though.

While I haven't seen the VID range for Haswell (22Nm), I know my Sandybridge which is a 32Nm process was .6 to 1.35 V

It seems Realtemp is reporting the last core to be the coolest, and from what I've seen it seems the 3rd core is running the hottest.

Since it is a more than 10C degree difference, wondering if a reapplication of the TIM might have an effect on the temps.

Re: * rampage v extreme *

Thanks GWillakers, I ran that just for one stress to see how far the cpu would
clock stable, 1/2 hr was enough for me. I run no more then 1.35v for 24/7 and
try to stay @ 1.3v or lower. I agree with all you've said. The #3 core # 6 core get more
in line with the others @ lower temps. I'll try a reapplication of the TIM some time soon...

Re: * rampage v extreme *

ASUS RVE BIOS is really neat, all the thing you can do with the settings, e.g.
You can set the boot/up speed for the memory training, different from the in
windows speed. I've read the boot up of memory training, can be tougher then
some memory stress test. I set the DRAM AB, DRAM CD,
channels to what ever it takes to get into windows. Then go to Dram Control setting, scroll down to
near the bottom. Theres two settings that read DRAM Eventual CHC, CHD,
there I set the two settings, @ a lower setting for in windows operation. I think
thats the cats meow... I hope I explained this well enough. I just wonder if
the other ASUS different models of mobos, have this feature... Does yours
Sandog have this in your BIOS???

Re: * rampage v extreme *

Yes, it appears I have it.

Capture.JPG

I just run my memory at it specs. I did change one thing and that was command rate to 1T. I read up and that is OK to do at the speed and timings I am at and it makes a big difference in accessing reads and writes to memory.

Glad you are experimenting with your new board. It is the only way to discover and learn what you can do.

Thanks for the quick reply...
Yea I'm learning a thing or two about the bios/DDR4 memory, cpu, X99 chip.
I've been having fun the last couple weeks with this new upgrade...
