Re: ASUS X99-E WS/USB 3.1 Motherboard !

Hey FVB, I have looked at those already a while ago. There are three flavors now I believe. Anyway they are very good boards but very expensive. They can actually do 4 x 16X I believe with not 1 but 2 addon PLX chips I believe.

Odd thing is, these boards are hard to find now. After boards get past their debut and about 6-12mos down the road they seem scarce. It is almost like ASUS does a huge run initially and then that is it for the really high-end boards. They do not leave the assembly open for a particular board until the new chipsets come out. I have witnessed this by looking for the exact board above and even the R5E.

Re: ASUS X99-E WS/USB 3.1 Motherboard !

Worst reviews I've ever seen on a Asus motherboard and our 950 Pro won't work on the m.2 connector its not long enough?

Re: ASUS X99-E WS/USB 3.1 Motherboard !

Yeah, well this type board is not popular for putting a notebook type drive in. It is for expensive SAS controller cards and running 10 hard drives. I remember when M.2 first came around it was for SATA and ran at PCI 2.0 2X and was max 80mm long. Now it is PCI 3.0 4X and a max 110mm long.

IMO we will need PCI 4.0 4X or PCI 3.0 8X (M.4 connector lol) in order to serve the new Intel Optane SSD's developing.

Re: ASUS X99-E WS/USB 3.1 Motherboard !

FYI, Skylake-E will not be due out until 2017. The only option I have for a new mobo in the near future is a refreshed X99-Deluxe or more probable, a refreshed X99 Rampage V Extreme.

Edit: Once I get my 950 Pro up to 4X PCI 3.0 speed there is no other reason for me to want to upgrade my mobo for Broadwell-E, it will just be for fun and having a badass mobo like the R5E.

You know I was wrong the M.2 slot it is long enough to hold the 950..

Re: ASUS X99-E WS/USB 3.1 Motherboard !

BTW, I have read up enough on the i7-5930K and from my own experience with the i7-5820K that I have already set my clocks. Even though I am at 4.4GHz now and the 5930K is 200Mhz over the 5820K I am going to run out the gate at 4.5GHz all cores and leave it at that. I have confidence in the stability at this frequency.

When the Broadwell-E CPU's arrives I will have to rediscover a good OC. The new CPU's are going to be 14nm process vs. the current 22nm process. That is a 57% reduction in die-size. It means less voltage and current which turns into a big power savings but the heat dissipation area is also denser. Intel will still be using the solder method on the heat spreader for the socket 2011v3 CPU's so that will be a plus again. The current Haswell-E's are great over-clockers already and partly due to not have an iGPU. The new Broadwell-E's should be the same amount of fun.

One other thing with Broadwell-E, they will be spec'd for DDR2400 and there appears to be some minor instruction set re-visioning going on.
  • Intel ADX: ADOX and ADCX for improving performance of arbitrary-precision integer operations
  • RDSEED for generating 16-, 32- or 64-bit random numbers from a thermal noise entropy stream, according to NIST SP 800-90B and 800-90C
  • PREFETCHW instruction
  • SMAP (Supervisor Mode Access Prevention) – optionally disallows access from kernel-space memory to user-space memory, a feature aimed at making it harder to exploit software bugs.
