this afternoon, while running these test. So's that would factor in...
Yeah I ran both Intel XTU and Prime95 about a week ago to test my current 4.5GHz OC on all cores including HT. I let Prime95 run for about an hour which is longer than I should have. XTU is a cool program. You have to go to advanced and use the test in the middle to test your current settings or else it uses the clocks it is set to.

I am looking forward to my new CPU and OCing it. I thinking 4.5GHz for sure or maybe 4.6GHz without using HT. Performance increase is not significant OCing, maybe 5% max for a high OC but it is fun and I have noticed a extra snappiness to my system after OCing. I like the feeling of having the max performing hardware in my system to get the most out of it and this new 8-core EE CPU will do it.

On a side note, I am still really glad I got the STRIX 1080 and not the STRIX 1080Ti. My 1080 plays DooM to it's max on my new monitor and even though GPU temps stay in the 40-50C range, it has been getting plenty warm in the room.

Yea good read, thanks, I've read alot on the 7900X CPU. I'm not locked into
mine, mine is a wait and see how goes... In the interim, I'll enjoy, I knew the
VRM heat sink was inadequate, As soon as I took it apart, to see if better
TIM might help. But this is the best mobo for now, then comes ROG EXTREME
VI APEX to solve that problem, hopefully...

Read up on this board - it's fantastic. Had I not had to spend over a grand for a iPhone7+ and iPad I may have pulled the trigger myself.

Re: *** prime x299 deluxe ***

True story, my coworker collected almost 4 bit coins several years ago just from mining. He sold 3 to a company in Japan for $700 and the company went under before he got paid. He said 1 bit coin is worth about $2800 today. Well he had about 1/4 bitcoin left and he found out NewEgg accepts bit coins so he ordered him a $700 system (Ryzen 8 core + mobo) and paid for it with the bit coin. He has his new mobo, AMD CPU, and new Oculus Rift headset at home and he bought a CoolerMaster EVO HSF but it didn't come with the right CPU adapter for his mobo so he is still waiting.

Yea I hear ya, I was waiting to see if I was going to keep this mobo/cpu.
Let 30 day return run out, to be sure I'll stay with the 7900X, I may know
soon anywho. I'm pretty happy with me 7900X, not many can run a stable
4.9mhz oc, or get into windows @ 5.mhz. I can even surf the net @ 5.mhz
Just can't bench it. I let it 4.9mhz oc run last night, run it for well over an
hour with CPU-Z stressor running , Intel XTU to see how its doing. No throttling
showed....up...

Re: *** prime x299 deluxe ***

Skully, 4.9 GHz is better than the average, but are you saying thats across all cores?
Also, what vcore is the cpu running at that speed? You mentioned earlier cpu-z showing VID, does it show vcore too?

I think from memory I have an older version of cpu-z or something that shows "core voltage" which I take to be vcore, but I may be wrong, I'll have to check my system later today.

With Threadripper the expectation is 16 core at very high speed as well.
My plans to upgrade are on hard hold until I see what it can do on X399.

Re: *** prime x299 deluxe ***

Skully hasn't shown one picture of benchmarks or voltages or temps but I believe him. There are several reviews online of the 7900X doing 4.8GHz on air and others have gotten to 5GHz already.

I remember I left the enthusiast for mainstream because everything ran warm to hot on the X58 mobo. The I/O bridge was like 25W alone. The PCI chip ran hot, the regulators ran hot. It was hot all the time even on the desktop. Now a huge mobo with a 10 core runs as cool as a low end mobo/CPU until you load it.

IMO, the CPU does not heat up the room, it is the video card which always runs hotter than the CPU. Even if you owned an i5 quad core but ran a 1080Ti your room would get hot.
