Hi Ya!

Stopped by and thought that this seems like a friendly and knowledgeable forum. So ...Hi!
I'm planning my second build, and I'm sure I will have more than a few questions.
Until then, I hope everyone has a great holiday season.
All the best.

That's the question. I haven't built one in some time. Right now I'm still on a P4 3.4Ghz, and an Nvidia 7900 GTO.
I know the old advice, if you keep waiting for the new tech, you'll be waiting forever, but right now, things seem to be turning over rapidly.
I'm thinking, as long as I've waited this long, to wait for January. Hopefully then prices will fall, and I can take a look at a Penryn.
No longer than January, though.
After the new year, I'll look at what's available, and start in.
I'll have a budget of around $2,500-$3,000 (I've been saving for some time) and I want a system for gaming, and the Adobe programs I use (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere).
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking:
-Penryn (price allowing, if not, Q6600)
-X38 Mobo - Asus?
-The new 8800GTS
-WD Raptor 150GB
-WD Caviar 500 GB
-Samsumg SH-S203B DVD R/RW (I've read nothing but good reviews in this)
-LITE-ON Black SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DH-16D2S-04
-Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
-PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad
-As far as a case, I'm still researching, but I'm leaning towards a Lian Li. Possibly the PC-V1200Aplus II, but that's not definite by any means.
Anyway that's what I've got so far. Any suggestions would be welcome.
For future reference, is there a specific forum where I should post any questions about a new build? I didn't see one dedicated to that, and I want to post in the right place. Thanks again, oh, and Brain, thanks for the beautiful welcome!

Re: Hi Ya!

Hey Neighbor!
Thanks. I forgot RAM. I was thinking of going with DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600). I know it's expensive now, but, if I go with DDR2, and then upgrade to DDR3 later, I might be spending as much, or more overall, than if I just bought the DDR3 now. Plus I'm hoping there may be at least a nominal price drop after the holidays.

With that kind of thinking go for DDR3 1600. Higher if you want to spend more. The new CPU's will be 1600.

There are a few X38/X48 threads going. Pick one to discuss DDR3 RAM and other componants for X38/X48. Better than the new members area.
