Just for info. I got SuSE 7.1 running on my system with no problems at all.

I tried Red Hat and it has nothing on SuSE. Could not get my sound or NIC card to work at all in Red Hat. Also if you have problems getting cards to work in SuSE 7.1 make sure the Plug & Play OS is set to NO in the Bios.

And the version of Lilo that comes with it rocks.. Not a problem at all.

Just thought I would pass the info along..

I have been using Suse since 6.3 and it is still the best distro in my opinion. It always works with my hardware and always seems to install properly. I have been running 7.1 on my old ABIT SA6 board with the DMA turned on and it shifts, hopefully everything will be the same when I get my CUSL2-C.

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

I don't think the USB scanner will work. USB printer support for the 959 - not sure. My USB printer (Epson 777) works in SuSE 7.1 and it was far easier to set-up than in Windows. Might want to check the SuSE web site for list of hardware that works on the software. SuSE 7.1 is great on my CUSL2.

I use Red hat 7.0.
Yesterday i installed a creative SB Live!player 1024 on a already installed red hat 7.0
During boot up there is a 'Checking for new hardware' stage.
Red hat 7.0 found the card, asked me something (don't remeber what) and i was up and running..
Soundcard worked..
No problems...

SuSE 7.1 worked almost 100% nicely on mine (I love the DVD version - no disc jockeying) apart from getting the GF2U to work. I ran /usr/bin/switch2nvglx or whatever it was and most things worked but the KDE2 screensavers bailed for some reason with segfaults.

Any ideas?

Hat 7.1 did a reasonably good job of finding all the hardware, some tweaking required when it came to the zip drive, but nothing major. I do believe, Iomega has their head up their a*s, but that's another story.

I have several boxes running several UNIX flavors (SunOS, Solaris, Hat, Mandrake, Debian, FBSD, etc) I know some people like Suse, I don't, that's my 0.02
