Re: UPS died!

Well it passed the manual self test without the PC plugged in...then I unplugged the UPS from Ac and it worked perfect, in 4 minutes it shut down the PC and monitor like it is supposed to do (hibernation)...so it does what I need if I get a power failure when I'm not around it will go to battery and shut down...I'm done! LOL...Thanks guys for all the help!

Re: UPS died!

Glad it is working. I would want the software working if it were me especially on a brand new UPS just like I would want any software working (you listening ASUS). But...with the UPS, everything is built in. I do not believe you need to have communication to the PC unless the UPS is away in another room and you cannot see/hear it. The UPS display, waring buzzer, self test, etc. is all accessible from the front of the UPS. It is just more convenient to run the software instead of visiting the UPS on the floor behind my desk.

One other note. It is weird the UPS and the Corsair PS might not be getting along due to PFC but I saw this topic mentioned in the Cyber Power website. The only connection between the two is the AC power plug (L1-Line/L2-Neutral/Gnd) so it would have to be PFC in some way, shape, or form. Also, isn't your Corsair power supply getting a little long in the tooth? Like 5yrs maybe? I know they started selling it's replacement back in January '13. I am just thinking maybe the PFC circuitry is out of date.

The Corsair AX750 was the top PS Corsair sold at the time...I just looked I got it October 2011 from Amazon...almost 6 years service, I got this off Corsair site..."Supports the latest ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 standards and is backward compatible with ATX12V 2.2 and ATX12V 2.01 systems"....you know the software works, it makes a proper shutdown when AC goes down...its just the silly self test??? Its voodoo....lol

Re: UPS died!

Is the data cable connected to a USB3 or USB2 port? I would keep it on a USB2 port.

Re: UPS died!

Yeah that is a good idea to use USB 2.0 for things like that where you don't need speed but want compatibility more. I don't think that is the issue with his PFC though and I am getting the impression he wants to close this case

Re: UPS died!

I only use USB3 for Data Intensive stuff, i.e. external drives.

Re: UPS died!

I thought the test was failing without software like when you were pushing the test button on the UPS? Anywho, glad you got it working finally. I have seen this issue before with USB 3.0 cables, I had it once but cannot remember, maybe it was at work. I would always prefer to have some USB 2.0 ports available on the rear of my mobo and internally. Just like I do on top of my case. I have 2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0.

ASUS does their Back to BIOS port and KeyBot USB ports in 2.0 in the rear and I have a micro USB 2.0 stick I keep just for BIOS flashing. You can format a 2.0 drive so it will be seen with any legacy system.

Anyway, thanks to Jim for thinking of that one.

Re: UPS died!

I did still have the data cable hooked up when I did the manual self test with power button...so the extra power with usb 3 must affect it...I only have 2 x usb 2 ports on the back and 6 usb 3...the reason I didn't do it in the first place is I had a usb 2 extension plugged in for my keyboard so both ports were full....but all is good now...all the bull I just went though....lol...I'll call APC on Monday and fill them in for their own knowledge! You know this morning I changed usb 3 ports because I had one open...didn't make any difference....thanks again Jim...

Re: UPS died!

When you made the latest port swap to USB2, it may have been coincidental that it is now working. It may have been a busy/interfering port you had the cable orignally connected to.

In either case, I am glad it's mworking for you.

Re: UPS died!

I ordered the CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD PFC and 10 one foot extensions to hook up power bricks to my UPS's. Got the CP for $144 from Amazon should be here Friday, my APC is going to the front room for my TV and other stuff. Here's a link to the extensions, I have a few around the house and they are nice to have.
