ASUS Xonar U7 MkII External Sound Card

Just seen this and I might get one, the main reason is I could leave my headphones plug in and switch between them and my speakers, getting tired of switching between the two twice a day....

Nice find Jim. I am knocked out of Wolfenstein New Order. I can't make it past the first hurdle of going under water. Can't get past the dog. The reason is you are suppose to run then duck to get past the point. That is holding two keys and hitting a third I believe.

Re: ASUS Xonar U7 MkII External Sound Card

BTW, I got caught up in bragging on my audio setup and forgot to mention if you are in the market for a new ASUS external card I would check see what is on the horizon with ASUS because they are putting the ESS DAC on current mobo's and internal sound cards and it will probably only be time before ASUS has an external audio device with them in it.

Very interesting game. I like it.

In FarCry4 I had to every now and then revert to default key mapping to complete an intricate move. Then revert back to my customized keys. All this because of the stupid consoles. That's why I am not big into gaming anymore. I replay the favorites: Doom, FC4, FO4, and FSX.

If you like DooM then get Doom 2016. It is only $18 and is much better than the original.

Re: ASUS Xonar U7 MkII External Sound Card

FVB did you ever get this sound device? I have mentioned it many times but I have really found a safe zone for audio I cannot get out of even though it requires me to use and antiquated PCI sound card. The secret is I use an extraordinary sound card. It is probably one of the best audio circuits ever mated to a PC. ASUS sold the Essence STX for 5yrs and then came out with the STX II and the only changes made to the original were an oven controlled oscillator, an OP amp kit, and a driver for Windows 10.

The other secret is being able to utilize Xonar drivers that completely remove the overhead and bloatware guaranteed when you own a PCI sound card. Xonar drivers disable audio control panels from autostarting, fix audio driver issues that will never get addressed by ASUS, allow support for auxiliary audio features and addons such as Xonar Switch and also lowers DPC latency by disabling the ASUS GX audio enhancement /EAX emulator. I never have any audio issues at all with Windows 10.

The hardest part is finding an audio solution that not only sounds really good to me personally but works with the rest of the audio system including headphones. To have an audio setup that switches between speaker and headphones, allows multiple audio configurations, and allows increasing/decreasing the audio level in 1% increments all from a single hand on the keyboard is heaven. I cannot change one component in my PC audio system with out screwing things up and there is just no reason for improvement which is why I will probably keep this audio setup going forever.

Hey FVB, my dilemma is I have this wonderful drive bay audio device (SurpremeFX) which is basically a STRIX RAID Deluxe and I don't use it. Such a shame. I have a nice short cable to plug into it with my HP's to. The reason is, I have a beautiful switching setup going. I leave my HP's plugged into the rear of my Essence audio card and I swith between my speakers and headphones with the keyboard.

I can setup several profiles with all the options available that are available in the audio control panel. I can set initial volume levels, sound effects, Dolby, etc. I have one for speakers that is default everytime I boot into Windows with 50% audio volume. I have two profiles for my headphones both open with 25% audio volume. One HP is for music, the other HP profile is for gaming and has Dolby Headphones enabled.

BTW, if anyone is listening we cannot upload pictures still.

Re: ASUS Xonar U7 MkII External Sound Card

At one time or another the way I handled Jack switching was a Y cable. I simply reached over on my desk, turned-off the speaker amp and walla - only earphone audio. It worked!

Now I use cans most of the time, and a ghetto blaster for everything else.

Anyway - it looks good FV, enjoy!

Somewhere in this forum I previously posted I was one of the first to try Doom 16. I did not like the auto saves - I refunded it. I may try again at a later time. Price seems right now. Thanks.
