Hat 7.x IS capable of supporting an SB16 PCI sound card, but starting with Hat 7.1 the distro introduced kudzu, which should configure your SB16 on bootup, provided you have PnP OS set to NO in the BIOS under the BOOT section.

Set your BIOS as indicated above, also disable all the COM, USB, ports in BIOS you're not using, save and exit. After, the card is configured and functional, you can enable the COM/USB ports again, if you so wish.

Which MoBo are you running?
What BIOS version do you have?
What PCI slot do you have the SB16 in?

Suggestion:

Consider including your PC specs on future posts, help can come faster and be more accurate if we don't have to guess and/or ask you for specs each time.

Good luck!

What I said in my previous reply should fix the problem. However, if you still keep having trouble, try moving the SB16 card to a different PCI Slot (non- shared), there is NO need to mess with the BIOS IRQ assignments, the defaults as a norm work fine.

Here's a breakdown of the PCI slot sharing ...

PCI SLOT SHARING:
------------------------
Slot 1 - Shares with Slot 5
Slot 2 - Not Shared
Slot 3 - Shares with Onboard USB Controller HC1
Slot 4 - Shares with CNR LAN
Slot 5 - Shares with Slot 1
Slot 6 - Not Shared

Good luck!

I can't think of anything else at the moment, that hasn't been covered. There is obviously something wrong, I don't know if it's software, hardware or human factor (no offense intended) and/or a combination.

If, I come up with anything else, I'll do a supplemental post.

Good luck.
