Windows 10 Install

Here is the definitive way to install the latest Windows, have a backup copy, and never have to reinstall it again.

Go here and DL the Media Creation Tool

Download Windows 10

Let the tool create the latest build w/updates on a USB 3.0 thumb drive. You will now have a bootable installation disk with the latest version of Windows that can install in minutes. Before you install Windows you should always run the Media Creation Tool first to get the latest version w/updates. You can save the Media Creation Tool on your PC. I have been running the tool since Win7.

Once installed with your registration key, if you ever need to reinstall Windows you can just Reset your PC. This save a lot of time and effort.

Re: Windows 10 Install

Yeah, it is the fastest way to install Windows. You also have it stored on a thumb drive in case of no network. Works great! In fact, it is so fast it really does not take much more time to just reinstall Windows than doing a Reset. Doing either you end up the same with a new copy set at default. With the thumbdrive install you can format or change the disk.

Re: Windows 10 Install

Do note that there exist a problem out there that some people experience with the Reset function. I know because I myself encountered it a couple of days ago.

When you go to settings > Update and Security > Recovery >reset this PC
You come to a screen where it ONLY allows advanced functions.
The Reset button is missing.
I followed a You Tube video, and sure enough my screen was different
from what they displayed. It was not a matter of me not seeing the proper button.

So I went to the Installation media. Booted with it.
Went into trouble shooting. Eventually got to a screen with a button that was labeled "Advanced Recovery and Reset PC". Pressed it.
Got another screen which only had a "Advanced recovery" button on it.
When I pressed that there were no options for Reset PC.
Went to the web, found a page where several people experienced this.

Any way, It was just easier to do a complete re-install.

After the install, I rechecked the Reset PC function and it was back.

Re: Windows 10 Install

Works for me and worked well before the last or last two new builds as well. Here it is on my PC.

I really like Reset the PC. I you will be back to a clean install in no time and with very little input. Reset is perfect IMO if you are reinstalling on the same drive and Windows is working.

Re: Windows 10 Install

There is also another road to Reset my PC. You can go to Advanced Windows Startup and the Troubleshooting and it should be in there as well. If you don't see it in Windows or Advanced Startup menu and you were using Windows normally, I would lean toward it not being enabled on your PC. You may only see this feature if you are using a genuine Windows Pro key, IDK.

Re: Windows 10 Install

Using Genuine windows, and I double checked that it was activated.

Tried both methods, and neither gave me the option of a Reset button.

In the past I just wanted a straight install, but this time thought I'd try something different since I wasn't sure about my product codes.

Saw the website where others were having the issue... and they are arguing with the MS rep.... "Yes... BUT THE BUTTON IS NOT THERE!"

Anyway ...maybe next time. Cause the button is back after the re-install.

Re: Windows 10 Install

Well it seems that you required a new install indeed. Now things are working like they should. Next time try 'Reset my PC'. I bet you will like it. Not only does it complete the install in very short time, there were no updates required. Before, I would be auto updating for then next 3-days.

Re: Windows 10 Install

I laid the law down to my son, who was misbehaving.

He was refusing to do something that I told him to do.

I gave him fair warning if he didn't comply I would delete his account from the PC. He spends well over 12 hours/day gaming.

Well turns out I did have to wipe the steam drive.

That's why I wanted the "Reset" because all I wanted to do was wipe out all traces of other applications.

But the old re-install everything worked just as well.

This is why I've been able to be on the site more these past few days.
Typing with a keyboard so much easier than typing with an Xbox controller.
