Re: * Intel i9-7900x *

Hey GW, thanks for the good words. I own HWM Pro and it doesn't work properly. The free HWM shows too many or two few cores for my 9700X. The one program you can count on is Intel Extreme Tuning Utility but I have not ran it yet.

Re: * Intel i9-7900x *

I was getting 2200 on my 5960X OC'd to 4.3GHz. With this CPU I am almost hitting 3K and I am not OC'd at all. Also, I am continuing to hit 186W on the desktop with this system. Last CPU was mid-190's. It's a little deal but it is more odd.

Re: * Intel i9-7900x *

Well I did some OCing. Here's a neat pic of what I have my CPU set to run on plus I got 3273 Marks in IXTU. .
4.5GHZ on 3 cores,
4.4GHz on 4'
4.3GHz on 6'
4.1GHz on 10'

and all the rest AUTO

171227223750.jpg

Capture.JPG

Here I topped out at 80C. That is better than my 5960X. Also when I look in HWM at stock I see only one recorded core at 4.5GHz. With this OC I see every core bouncing around at 4.5GHz (not at once)
Capture2.jpg

It is odd that when stock I should see 4.5GHz on two cores pretty often but you hardly do. When you manually set it it does it all the time. I think that is part of the difference with letting Intel control Turbo or enabling ASUS Multicore Enhancement.

Re: * Intel i9-7900x *

OK, GW I ran IXTU and AIDA64 on a BIOS preset OC but now I am back to stock again. My fans are more stable and I don't worry about temps or power at stock. The 9700X is just as cool running as the 7820X. I wanted the PCI lanes but not the added heat and it looks like I am not getting any so I am pretty happy with the 9700X. I hope the OC burned in my TIM a little bit. I know Prime95 didn't do it, I maxed out yesterday at 50C with all workers running (stock). I briefly hit 80C with the single AIDA64 run. Now she's parked back in the garage.

Congrats on the 7900x. Sounds like you got a good one. Just recently moved to the 7820x myself. Have a few days off at the end of the week for New year's and hope to spend some time with it, holiday's and work taking up all free time currently. Enjoy your new hardware!

What clocks are you running your system at Skully? Your system is a secret lately. We never know what you have. I know you like to go off and do your own thing and surprise us, I am just glad I didn't go through with the DIMM.2 crap that you already knew about. Thanks!

Re: * Intel i9-7900x *

Welcome,
7900x, per core, first 4 @ 4.6gig the other 6 cores on auto.
This is something new I just tried... I haven't been
staying with anything long enough to talk about much.
I'm just running through everything I can do on the APEX.
Then settle down on what I like best...

Yeah the thing I find about ASUS controlled setting in BIOS is they don't seem to work quite like they should. For example when you set cores to certain speed like you did above they do not follow properly. You will probably find that since you set only the 1st four cores to 4.6GHZ, all the rest follow. I had the same thing happening to me with my RVE10 and 5960X. Also what I saw was you can set cores 0&1 to 4.5GHz and move down cores 2&3 to 4.3GHz but when you benchmark several cores will still hit 4.5GHz when only 0&1 are set for 4.5GHz.

I like where I am at. The i9-7900X is supposed to do 2 cores at 4.5GHz on Turbo 3.0. With the ASUS Gaming Profile selected it goes up to 3 cores at 4.5GHz and then cascades down. It still ends up like stock though if you run all 10 cores and it goes to 4.1GHz when all 10 are used.

I asked because I checked your CPU-Z benchmark settings in the link above. It showed all your cores on 4.6GHz but the last time I remember you said you were running at 4.9 or 5.0GHz. Also, I don't know if you noticed but your CPU was hitting 101C. If you look at my benchmark settings you will see I am only hitting 51C

I am also running default cache of 2700MHz and DDR4-3200 whereas you are running cache at 3200MHz I believe and memory at 4000MHz. That makes a difference in CPU wattage for sure.

The way I like to test my CPU is Prime95 because I can enable 3 workers and see 3 cores going to 4.5GHz. What is amazing is I am using the ASUS Gaming Profile like I said and if I enable all workers or just run stock on Prime95, my CPU doesn't even get past 60C. I think the whole CPU is running at 4.1GHz. I have never seen any CPU run all Prime95 workers and stay at 60C. All things point to me having a really good cooling system i.e. good CPU block and water loop.
