Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

I received my red EK-M.2 NVMe heatsink today. I have already taped it up and it is ready to go. The drive should be here this Thursday. I will have a new game drive going very soon. No fuss, no muss.

New AI Suite.

Version 3.00.13
2018/01/16146.47 MBytes
ASUS AI Suite 3
This version 3.00.13 is to fix the compatibility issue, I suggest we say it out loud. Better we add a note saying something like:
Fix compatibility issue between the latest Windows 10 update KB4056892.

- AI Suite 3 v3.00.13
- Dual Intelligent Processors 5 v1.05.13

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Well I ran DIP5 last night and it wanted to start off with all my cores on 4.4GHz and two cores (#4&10) on 4.6GHz. It crashed the minute it started benchmarking. I had to go into BIOS and set those two cores to 4.4GHz. With all 10 cores at 4.4GHz the tuning started but I set my limit to 75C. As it was testing all 10 cores at 4.4GHZ I noticed the temp was at 74C lol. I uninistalled AI Suite and I am back to the awesome Gaming Profile for the 10 core. It works perfectly. It is fast, stable, and efficient.

BTW, when you start AI Suite DIP5 asks which way you want to start, TPUI or TPUII? TPUII is for water cooled CPU's. Anyway, I can enable TPUII in BIOS as well and it does the same, it sets all cores to 4.4GHz except for 2 cores which it sets to 4.6GHz. I don't likey that. Also, something interesting. When it sets up TPUII, it customizes two new settings for AVX2 & AVX-512. If you run AVX2 stuff it sets the CPU multiplier back 2x and if you run AVX-512 it sets it back 3x. This is to compensate for the increased load.

I have found that the i9-7900X (base clock 3.3GHz) will tackle anything on all 10 cores + HT at 4100MHz. I am set up to go 4.5GHz on 3 or less threads but never below 4.1GHZ on all 10. Lovin' it.!

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

You have to do it from the CMD window I believe. It worked for me after that and I haven't seen it in weeks. I have an Optane as well. Make sure it is uninstalled as well in your Program Files.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

I thought it would be good to get the ASUS OC Panel before it is unavailable. I don't know if ASUS will ever provide the OC Panel II or not. There are a couple of good used ones out there on Ebay and I scored one for around $40 delivered. It is just an nice edition to the front of the case IMO and it goes with the APEX. These were provided on the Rampage IX I believe and the RVE V but not since then. The display is in white LED readout which looks good and shows basic info. such as CPU temp. No software to run and it doesn't require Windows.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Yeah I have had one of these before when I had the RVE. I installed it and so did Skully. You can use it to switch between the TPU OC settings but I am not using them plus I leave my settings alone. But, like I said it shows CPU temp and clocks. Just something to look at and check if everything is normal. It has fan control headers inside it also. I liked the looks of it outside my case when I had it even though the display is a bit small and it looks much better when you view it straight on. I like it. I had to get rid of mine when I sold the RVE and then the RVE10 came with the headphone amp instead.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

The APEX is a pretty darn modern mobo. It has a lot of stuff on it. Besides VROC and special drive sockets, etc. it is loaded to the gills with USB.

The ports in the back are very modern and plentiful. They are:
6x USB3.1 Gen1 'A' ports.
2x USB2.0 'A' ports. The top one supports the 'USB BIOS Flashback' feature.
1x USB3.1 Gen2 'A' port.
1x USB3.1 Gen2 'C' port.

All of the USB3.1 ports are much faster (10Gbps) than USB3.0. They also carry twice the current. The two USB3.1 Gen2 ports can be used for charging as they can be set to 'ON' all the time. The 'A' port is the red one by the ETH jack. This is the one I use for my phone.

Inside the mobo is another USB extravaganza. Instead of 1 dual port 20-pin connector for the front panel you get 2x dual port 20-pin connectors that are USB3.1 Gen1. You also get a new USB3.1 Gen2 dual port connector which I have never seen a plug for yet (future cases). There are also two additional USB2.0 headers. One for a rear I/O bracket (single port) and one is for internal (dual port).

Yeap, this is the most loaded USB ported mobo I have ever seen. More than the RVE10 even.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Well guys, a little snooping in the mobo manual and I found this.

If you have the last PCI slot set to 8X (default is 4X) it takes away 4X from M.2_2 on the CPU-DIMM.2. This further implies that M.2_1 and M.2_2 sockets on the CPU-DIMM.2 socket have their own 4X.

If this is the case then I should be able to setup RAID0 just off the CPU_DIMM.2 adapter card. After I get my RAID key, I might even be able to do VCOR on non-Intel SSD's. I might be buying a second 500GB EVO.

It would be super cool to have two NVMe SSD's in RAID0 running off the CPU built-in controller (VCOR) which sits right next to the drives.

Interesting and thanks, for the info Sandog, I'm going to
try a run to MC this afternoon. The roads look pretty clear
and MC is open. I'll trade my OPTANE PCI drive in for one
that works....
