I have to concur, my 750 1.2tb is the best drive I've owned.
Next month I'll of owned it 2 yrs. It still plays L with 4k. The
4k speeds is what I use most. When in windows I can't perceive
a difference between the 960 and the 750 in speed. Also no
difference is gaming...

Re: Intel Optane SSD 900P 480GB NVME 3D XPoint!

According to Tom's chart - the greatest jump is going from a spinner to Optane. Everything else is below the median.

The longevity is an eye-opener.

Can you imagine this in RAID?

These drives are compatible with VROC also.....so raid is there on the cpu....and I heard the key you need for VROC to work might be thrown in the new MB's...just RUMOR!

Here is a repost from the RVE10 thread, I don't think anyone is reading my posts so here are pictures that need little explanation.

Here is the delay in 960 Pro I talked about. Next to it is Intel SSD 750 booming and no delay. And, if you look at all the rest of the 20 drives they are all in the dirt at the beginning.

Looks pretty equal to me. Samsung little faster, Intel lot smoother.

There are lots of other benchmarks where the 960 Pro kicks the 750 *** too....they are all good drives no need for a pissing match...I'm happy with my stuff and I know your happy with yours...they are all good!

Yeap, totally different data transfer interfaces worthy of moving up to.

Parallel>SATA III>PCIe 4X>Optane

Although Optane is a memory type and not a data interface.

It is just not good to jump on the wagon right away and be the poor $$ guinea pig.

LOL. I guess I was mean to the 960. I kinda went on a rant because it seems nobody reads or posts to any of my comments so I re-posted it. I have owned a 840/850/950 so far an liked them. Still keeping the 850 Pro. Just saying there are good reasons for me to like/keep the 750. Mainly it is 1.2TB and also it is now an iconic drive since it is discontinued. I am really surprised Intel came out with a new drive that looks just like it under the hood, around 30 large IC's and a big controller chip. Because it is much more expensive to make compared to the Sammy gum stick. I thought expense is why it was discontinued but like you noted, Intel was working on a new one.

BTW, I was going to ask you if you wanted to have my VGA holder but it got thrown out.

No problem I read all of your stuff Sandog and I post on almost all of your threads, I guess I missed that one, plus we all know now good Intel's ssd are so I didn't think is was necessary...I'm not going for optain ssd in less the price comes down, I can get a 1TB 960Pro for the price of the 480 gb Optain, I like the best bang for the buck!

TBH, Sammy will come out with a variant. It's best to wait. I'm still at 100% life in my lowly SATA SSD.

BTW, I read all posts. But you'll have to excuse me, I have no interest whatsoever in OC. Just not predisposed to it. But still, I learn a lot. Keep the posts flowing.

Re: Intel Optane SSD 900P 480GB NVME 3D XPoint!

OK Jim you have to read this....from Tom's!

"We've never experienced a system that felt as fast and responsive as our workstation with the 900P as the operating system drive, and that’s largely due to the explosive random read performance at low queue depths. At QD1, the 900P is nearly 4x faster than the Samsung 960 EVO 1TB.

You will see and feel a performance benefit just by using the Optane SSD 900P as your operating system drive. The feel of the system changes even if you’re replacing a high-performance NVMe SSD. You will notice the increased responsiveness immediately and then gradually become accustomed to it. In our experience, you will take the performance for granted until you work on a slower PC. Then you'll wish it had an Optane SSD"

Intel Optane SSD 900P Performance Testing

Re: Intel Optane SSD 900P 480GB NVME 3D XPoint!

Thanks FV. I read this article a few times now. My biggest takeaway is it's fast at it's infancy. Too early to compare to others as there are no others. Want to see what Sammy and the rest will come up with.

Latency is the big thing, and this baby has practically none.

"3D XPoint is still in its infancy. If the small size or high price put the Optane 900P SSD out of your reach, just give it a few years."

No point in mucking with a 960 Pro or similar for now. I'll wait it out.

In any case, need to upgrade to an Optane ready mobo!

I know Puget Systems has transitioned to Gigabyte boards. I want something with a PS/2 port. Gigabyte has that. My third choice to consider as I wait for the 370 WS.
