This board will really look good in my new case! Wish it had a PS/2 port.

It would look very nice in my 550D as well.

Why this one?
  1. Build and component quality
  2. Stability
  3. Durability
  4. Intel LAN
  5. I don't need 2 LAN ports
  6. Native Intel SATA III (even if it is only 2 ports, that is all I'll really need for now)
  7. Native USB 3 (4 is enough for now, because 2 are on the back and 2 are on the front header)
  8. I don't need "Wi-Fi GO"
  9. I don't need Bluetooth
  10. Enthusiast community support
I guess those are my 'top ten'.

I just wish they didn't put those stupid little fans on it.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

All very good reasons.

I use my USB/PS/2 mouse to turn-on the computer. It will only do that when the BIOS is set-up for it and I use the PS/2 port. Small thing, however it's a nice feature.

I am sure if you wanted you can turn the fan off in the BIOS. If you have all the vents sealed on your 550D, the fan on the board may be a good thing if you OC.

The WS version is not too shabby and it comes with the PS/2 port and not all of the frills you mentioned.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

A couple of previews, in case anyone hasn't seen them:

It appears that the small fans are optional/recommended, but not required. And if they are used, the rear fan can be oriented as push or pull.
I like this board.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

Very nice review. Interesting...ASUS now uses "TUF components, which just like MSI offers, are military-standard components being used for the capacitors, MOSFETs and chokes."

My previous MSI board had those and it was as solid and stable as what I have now.

Great board!!!

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

Yes it is. Need to be real careful in installing this board, as all that plastic would certainly scratch real easy.

A great looker!

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

I wonder if the enlarged backplate area of the board will interfere with a radiator that is mounted alongside at the rear of the case?

Good question.
I don't plan on water cooling, at least initially. And if I did, I would probably use the top vent (H100); so not a deal breaker for me.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

It's moot to me also as I don't plan on replacing my board for awhile. I did notice the size of the backplate area when I read the review, so I was just wondering.

Re: Asus Sabertooth Z77

Seems the sabertooth versiosn always have better PCI-E placement..second time I see a 1X above the 8X ones.. means in my case 2 trislots not sandwihching the soundcard.. then again a second trislot card will probably block the fans of the first one
