Hedy Lamarr

It seems I learn something surprising everyday in this industry, but this really raised my eyebrows this morning;

LET'S take a moment to reflect on the mercurial brilliance of Hedy Lamarr. Not only did the Vienna-born actor flee a loveless marriage to a Nazi arms dealer to secure a seven-year, $3000-a-week contract with MGM, and become (probably) the first Hollywood star to simulate a female orgasm on screen - she also took time out to invent a device that would eventually revolutionise mobile communications.

Story here

And from wikipedia:

Lamarr's and Antheil's frequency-hopping idea serves as a basis for modern spread-spectrum communication technology, such as COFDM used in Wi-Fi network connections and CDMA used in some cordless and wireless telephones.

Not only was this lady a serious inventor and major actress of Hollywoods Golden Era, but from what i've read today she was obviously one smart cookie.
And great looks to boot... (isn't it a rule that inventors should look like nerds?)

What an astounding woman and significant contributor to the invention of wi-fi which many of us use everyday!

Re: Hedy Lamarr

I just watched the new movie Bombshell:The Hedy Lamarr Story. Really interesting person and amazing life, but what was inspiring was her positive attitude at the end despite the setbacks she endured.

Her life can be viewed from several perspectives.
We owe her a very large debt, sympathy and recognition as well as admiration.
